Let's see how many times we can repost the photo that JP posted hahahah

OK, I'll refrain from re-posting that photo . . . someone sent that to me over 2 years ago . . . I've had it stored up in my yahoo photos for a long time along with another slightly irreverent one that I hesitate to post . . . but do make a person laugh :lol::lol:

c'mon... post it catherine! we're obviously bored around here :help:

OK, it isn't quite as funny as the lingerie photo, but here goes . . . It was titled "Arab Tourist in Beirut" . . an attaching the file instead of pasting it in the post save some space . . . but doesn't quite have the impact, hehe!!

Oh, Noura . . . you can start your baking now as I posted the sugar and spice cookie recipe!!!

Yeah I don't think she is a tourist, alot of women in Beruit dress like this.

Seriously???? I don't even see women here in the US dressed that way in the streets! Okay I do live in Utah, and the mormons are very modest dressers, so maybe I am just sheltered here.

OMG, I just ran across this photo, maybe someone can tell them the right direction to pray in.:lol:

136.jpg

I was sitting at my desk with my hands clasped over my mouth SNORTING trying not to laugh out loud at this. I gotta send that to Moh. He'll just DIE.

There should be a boot print squarely on each rear end.

I wouldn't recommend showing your husbands. I showed mine and just got a 30 minute lecture on Islam and the "meaning" from the picture....LORD ALMIGHTY......... I actually didn't intend on him seeing it but he happened to walk by and see it...stopped to see what it was ... and then it was all downhill from there...even when I tried to explain how an American would view it..didn't matter....... some of yer hubbies might be ok with it but definitely think about it before showing them...

Umm.....to late. I didn't get a lecture, but my husband was upset by the picture. He believes that the photo was "fixed" to insult Islam. He said that no true Muslim would ever pray in front of a lingerie store. I should have known better to send that to him, but he wasn't mad at me, just the picture itself.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

How is that insulting to Islam? I think its could maybe be insulting to those men but not to Islam.

I can do my best to "nutshell" what he said.......he said ~ the person that took that picture was making fun of Islam and trying to show ppl a bad point of view towards Islam and that if any other religious person, if they were thinking of converting, would see that picture and not choose Islam based on the picture (my husbands words, not mine) He got really mad from that viewpoint. It wasn't very pretty ... He also said that those men aren't Muslim even if they are Muslim because any Muslim person wouldn't ever ever ever pray in that situation. They would move down out of respect for Allah (also my husbands words and not mine) yea, he was very upset. OH, and he also said that if I were born Muslim, I would have been more offended by it and I he said I should tell everybody in the forum how wrong that was....... personally, I think that was taking it a bit too far but as I stated, he wasn't very happy...

Myself, I wasn't upset at all about it....I see it in an American way and saw the humor in it so no worries about offending me .....no offense on my part

Despite the many attempts at trying to explain our humor here, he doesn't understand it .... we ARE a crazy country when it comes to that.....

please remember that His views are not mine and in no way represent the way I felt about it.

mine said that in almost exact terms... the photo was fixed to insult Islam

How is that insulting to Islam? I think its could maybe be insulting to those men but not to Islam.

I didn't think it was insulting to Islam either until he saw it ...boy did I get an earful

Yeah I get what he is saying but its a very harmless picture. I think if anyone was serious about converting to Islam this photo would not be the deciding factor. The other things is and please don't get offended but his reaction reminds me so much of the reaction over the cartoons. I think if anyone were to change their mind about converting to Islam it would be over the anger that is portrayed in some situations.

I would assume that your husband and anyone who shares his opinion doesn't laugh when they see jokes about Jesus, Jews, Virgin Mary, Buddha, or any other religious figure. You should never lose your humor in life.

Just wanted to add, Amal I know these are NOT your views and I am just commenting on what I read. :)

Are you ok, Amal? (F) I would be so hurt if my husband said this. It is like saying converts cannot be as strong in their convictions or somehow cannot understand how a *real* Muslim thinks. I think regardless of the religion they converted to, converts can often be stronger in their beliefs than people born into a faith. :( Sorry he had such a strong reaction. I think when he is calm, you should let him know how this thinking could offend/hurt converts. (L)

ETA: I think this picture can be looked at in a totally different light, something positive, that no matter what is around to them, these men are able to hold to their faith, not be distracted, and pray, regardless of what *bad things* are around them. It can be a sign of strength and focus, rather than disrespect. All how you want to view it.

Just wanted to add, Amal I know these are NOT your views and I am just commenting on what I read. :)

He is definitely one that doesn't laugh at humor about any religion. The only reason I said they were not my views is coz I didn't agree with him whatsoever (i saw what he was saying but just didn't agree) and I didn't even like to type the words...coz to me they were wrong. I told him how harmless it was but he is just very serious about religion and couldn't see the harmlessness in it.

OH, and he also said that if I were born Muslim, I would have been more offended by it

I was very hurt by what he said and I let him know it the SECOND it hurt my feelings.

At one time, I told him I was very offended that he kept using the term "my religion" since it is also my religion. He did apologize for that (just for the record). I saw the picture exactly the same way you described in your "ETA". I tried to tell him that point during his rant...he WAS quiet for a moment but then went back to the initial reason the picture was taken (in his eyes) "to show the stupidity in Islam". I can't fault him for his beliefs and now I definitely know the limits to which I can take religious talk with him. There are very religious ppl to every religion and he is one of them who is strong on how Islam is protrayed. I can't blame him there..........
