Where is everyone from in Russia?

Well, technically all of 'RUB' was called Russia at some point or another

My wife is from a small town near Orenburg orginally (about 2 km from the Kazakh border), but now she lives just outside of Moscow.

Well good news...we got approved! Getting the Sputnik ready for intergalactic travel.

Now I find it very curious that there is so much debate with regards to respective territorial identies. As I mentioned my grandmother was from the Ukraine, Poltava to be specific. She arrived in the US after the Civil War leaving from Yalta as did many others. I never remember her identifying herself as anything but Russian.

I do find it curious though that the Ukraine receives more than its share of stereotypes and jokes from those I met the past two years in Russia. In some ways this is similar to the way the French look at the Belge. A bit of a "superiority" complex. I do not know if this has always existed but I suspect there is also a bit of jealousy here due to the weather. Or is this still a perpetuation of the repression of the Ukrainians during the Soviet period (famines and language)?

Well, I can't wait to go there and to Belarus where my wife's mother is from. Better to see and try to understand than to judge.

Part of my husband's family is from Ukraine and that's where we met for the first time, in Kiev. I have to tell you something though - Ukrainians joke about Russians just as much as Russians do about them.
