If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

Since ammo is so expensive now I bought a Tokarev TT-C to shoot at about 1/2 the price of my .45.

They're very good pistols. I'll probably buy a few more to keep in the Jeep, the garage, on the shelf above the toilet, etc. I didn't actually own the pistol when I bought the ammo. Got such a good deal on the ammo I bought a gun to shoot it! Now that I've shot it a bit I think I'll stay with this caliber for a while. I like the idea of having a pistol that shoots 1700fps. That might come in handy some day!

So get to work changing it. Here in Ohio we've gained a lot of momentum changing our gun laws.

I've been looking at those. I bought a vz 82 instead - it looked more ergonomic and I am left handed so the ambi safety is nice.

Im not so sure I trust the safety on mine. It was added as a "feature" for import. Like most Soviet weapons, it wasn't designed with a safety. I'm taking a pistol class this weekend. Gonna see how it holds up firing about 1200 rounds. Itll probably catch on fire!

Spent the weekend taking a 16 hour pistol class called Combat Focus Shooting. Went through lots of drills and scenario-based training for reacting to a dynamic critical incident, aka being ambushed during everyday activities. Shot around 1,000 rounds.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this course was it discussed both the psychological and physiological reactions to stimuli and worked through the most efficient responses. Many courses just teach "if this happens, do this." This course was built around, "here's how your body will respond, so here's the best way to react." Lots of shooting, lots of movement, and lots of fun!

Another interesting thing about this class was most of the pistols there didn't have safeties on them. (Glocks, XDs, M&Ps, etc.) I used my Walther P-22 to save money on ammo and I was trying to use my safety. About half way through the class I just abandoned it all together and carried cocked and locked, no safety, nothing. Your finger truly is your safety.

I thought the little Walther would gunk up really bad, jam, etc., but the only issues I had with it were operator issues (safety on, mag not seated properly, etc.) I didn't have any failures at all and only stoppages I encountered were when the slide wouldn't fully return. I could feel that and just gave it a little tap to drive it home. No worries! After using it for this class, I'd have zero issues carrying this little pistol as a personal defense weapon.

The instructors (and a couple other attendees) were giving me a hard time about the "puny little .22" and how I should "buy a real gun" and all that jazz. It wouldn't drop the pepper popper with 40 rounds... yet it was acknowledged that the reduced recoil improves accuracy to the point that it's almost guaranteed that hits will be placed on target. If you read through the statistics, problem with most gun fights is misses. This may solve that issue.

I highly recommend using a .22 for training - even tactical operator training - to save several hundred bucks. Once you get the drills down and really understand what you're looking for, then you can use the high $$$ ammo and get a little more recoil.

Since the .22 wouldn't drop the popper I did bust out the Tokarev for a few iterations. Easy to use, accurate, and a fine LOUD pistol. Same issues with carry though in that the safety is difficult to engage/disengage and most folks don't trust it enough to carry a round chambered. I'll probably work through that since I carried it around with no issues. Main thing is, just keep that trigger guard covered in the holster and there should be no issues.

Looking forward to running some of these drills with my 1911.

There were several ladies in the class too. They shot very well and had no issues hanging with the guys. Several folks were using "appendix carry" and it seemed to work well (provided you have no belly!) for this style of shooting.

It was also noted that "a left-handed girlfriend" is beneficial because you two can hold hands while walking and both draw at the same time.

Training classes are always fun. I encourage everyone to take classes if you can. Sure, some of them are kind of expensive, but you spend all that money on your hardware... why not spend some on your software?
