Hi everyone here,

I have been looking up a lot of steps in this website since I started applying for K1 visa. Everything has been good so far. But now I have a problem is I really want to go back VN to visit my family in Jan 2014 and go back USA Feb 2014, and my EAD ( employment authorization card expire is Jan 2014) while I haven't had green card yet. what can I do to travel aboard with green card and what should I do when my EAD expire?

I'm looking forward to seeing my family. I really miss them.

Waiting for everyone respond.

Thanks a lot.

have a nice day!

it doesn't govern by EAD expire date.

It does, however, govern by AP expire date.

Whatcha got, for AP expire date?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You need either AP or a green card if you want to go to VN and come back. Without AP or a green card, you will not be allowed back into the US.

Most likely, you will have your green card by Jan. 2014.

If you don't have a green card by then, you will need AP.

If you didn't apply for AP, you might want to do it now as a backup if your green card is not issued by the time you leave .

hi aaron, AP is Application for traveling document?

I applied for GC 2 year last November. It has been processing. IF I don't get green card in in arround This September, can I apply for AP? because I have to wait a few months to have AP ?

Does your EAD say "Serves as I-512 Advance Parole" at the bottom?

yup, it does. that's why I want to travel to VN in Jan 2014 . same time EAD expire.

AP stands for Advance Parole. You already have it since its you have a combo EAD/AP card. You'll be able to travel as long as the card is valid. Since it will expire in the middle of your trip, you will want to get it extended.

You can travel on your AP, provided you are not inadmissible, and can present the AP on its final day of expiration to re-enter the US.

For example, if the EAD / AP card expires on 1st September 2013 then you must present yourself at the PoE no later than the 1st September 2013 for re-entry. Beyond that date and you cannot use the card you have to re-enter.

You can apply for a new EAD / AP combo card by filing new I-131 and I-765 applications again. There is no fee for doing so, simply submit a copy of the NOA for your I-485 along with the applications, as well as a copy of your current EAD / AP combo card.
