After Visa, Before Crossing into US - Travel

Paranoid question -

Is there any issue with traveling abroad from Canada (not to the US) after you get the Visa. Obviously this would be before I cross into the US and activate my Visa.

Just wondering if this would cause for any problems?

Don't see why it would, ur travelling under a Cdn passport, and wouldn't be any different from the past

I may try traveling to the USA for Christmas, before moving, and after visa. They said at the consulate it is not a problem as long as I don't hand in the envelope and activate the visa. However, I have read people on this site advising against it for some reason.

I am leaning towards giving it a go, though it will be a huge bummer if I get a prickly immigration officer and end up wasting a plane ticket. What to do, what to do... I should just cool my jets for another month and a half... but that is such a long time.

I've thought the same thing and found the same advice. You could travel without using your Visa, just as a visitor. But if you deal with a border officer who asks a lot of questions and you have to divulge the fact you have an unactivated K1 Visa this may be a problem.

I'm opting not to risk it! Just going to cross first, apply for Advance Parole and hope that I get it within 90 days so I can do my travelling outside the US.

I can't find the exact link for this, but I pulled it off a US Consulate website (probably Vancouver's, which is down) and saved it:

"Once a fiancé(e) visa is issued, it entitles you to make one (1) entry into the US, and it must be used within six months. Temporary visits in the meantime may be permitted but you must make clear to the Department of Homeland Security Inspector at the time of entry that the visit is only for business or pleasure, and that the fiancé(e) visa will be used at a later date. It is strongly recommended that applicants have their passport containing the K visa with them at the time of any such entry. The final decision on entry into the U.S. is made by the DHS inspector at the place of entry."

Probably one of those situations where it wouldn't hurt to show you still have ties to Canada (ie housing etc). They would likely understand if it was explained that you'd just received your visa and wanted to be together for Christmas, but you haven't had enough time to be ready to move just yet.

As for travelling abroad (not to the US) with an approved visa, I have yet to read anything that would prohibit it. Common sense would say that there would be no reason why you couldn't.
