RG’s plan for addressing poverty.

  1. Anyone that can work will work. The government will setup WPA style programs to reap the benefits of the temporary assistance by utilizing labor and retraining workers.
  2. Education, employment or the armed forces. If you’re 18 you must either be in college, employed or in the armed forces.
  3. Trade schools emphasized for dropouts.
  4. College should be free. Subsidize the colleges and stop subsidizing the people. When finally employed the workers will divert 5% of their initial 5 years’ salary back to the college.
  5. Drug possessions or under the influence of drugs shall not be felonies.
  6. Prisons shall make “rehabilitation” the main emphasis. No more prison warehousing.

I've got more but let that marinate...

We're not too far off. You're a lot more concise. That's for sure.

This is what I think it should be. I did college for a bit, it wasn't for me at the time. My mother said school, work, or the military. I chose option 3, I wish I got my degree instead but now I am working on it.

My idea is if you're messing around at 18-21 you'll just get into trouble. Plus it gives young people many bad habits.

You've got the freedom of 3 choices. That's better than most of the world.

The military straightens out lots of bad habits. ;)

What about like a year mandatory military service for all citizens?

Excellent idea.

Maybe they could actually learn about the Country they live in then?

Plus it teaches you what it's like living under a Communist dictator.

It's a great experience.

Got that right. I wasn't a bad kid by any scale, but the military enhanced what my mother already taught me.

I've said this before in another thread, I think anyone who wants to run for a government office should do a minimum 4 year enlistment.

And instills a few more bad habits. Overall, the experience was positive for me, not so positive for some of my acquaintances over the years. You get out of the military, what you bring into it. If you have problems, the military can make it worse. And, it is dangerous. There is a real risk you will not come home, or if you do, not quite in better shape that when you entered the military. The experience really messed some people up, mentally, and physically.

Not that I disagree with you, but what's the penalty if you're 18 and not employed, in college, or in the armed forces?

Yes, anyone who wants to be president should have some military experience since he or she is running/directing the military.

Congressmen or Senators also since they send people off to war.

Sorry but I disagree. An outside perspective is necessary. Ever see Dr Strangelove? Edited by Jacque67

Not sure about that...maybe you get study hall or jail...lol

That would have to be thought through...any ideas out there?
