I heard a black woman on tv talking about how it was common practice for black people with stereo typical black names to use their middle name (assuming its not as obviously black) on their resume so as to not be looked over immediately.

Marvin, do you have kids? If you plan to have them, what do you think about making the choice to name your child a culturally significant name vs a name that might not get their resume passed over? As in, is your child's chances in an unjust world more important than trying to change the unjust world.

Now you know what I am talking about. We have about 3 black women here that talk about this, one's name is Tanisha. She is currently working on her Master's degree. She said at first when she was using her first name, she didn't get any call backs. When she started used her middle name(Nicole), the door flew open.

I have 3 sons, two from my previous marriage, and my wife has one from a previous marriage. I gave them regular sounding names to avert this issue a long time ago. That's why I am glad my name is normal, I don't have anything against those who name their kids cultural names( I dated a girl named Kiwanee) but being that my sons are mixed(German and Black) they are going to have it hard enough.

On a side note, isn't it a bit ironic that Jackie Robinson was supposed to play his first baseball game with white players in Sanford, Florida but the city wouldn't allow it?

What a great history they have.

I had never even heard of Sanford until this incident.

Did you miss my first post? I said you can get rid of it, but you need to stop discriminating against folks with ethnic sounding names that are just as qualified if not more.

So what do you recommend, me and nature boy said yes there is a cultural problem and that has to come from community itself no one else can do it.

I also said when someone like Bill Cosby made comments there was a backlash so not sure as outsider what you and me can do.

Ah, my opinion, sure. I like the idea of a system that temporarily helps those that need help and permanently helps those that are a societal burden. (like wounded vets or special needs children/adults with no family to speak of) Incentive based programs are great for those able bodied people down on their luck either temporarily or from being born in a bad place. How can a system with no vision ever help people do anything other than survive. Why can't people on government programs receive incentives for participating in volunteer work or pursuing education (this happens to some extent now)

Education solves so many problems and no nation (except the fascist ones perhaps) has ever destroyed itself investing into educating its youth, poor included. But at the same time, lets give students the choice to take vocational routes to jobs that they are willing to do. There's nothing wrong with being a mechanic and you don't need to go to a university to be one. So i would suggest more government subsidized vocational programs for those without jobs.

Drugs, yes drugs. I disagree that all drugs should be made legal. But impartial studies have been done on different drugs that show different findings. I believe that any drug that is physically addictive or changes your base personality when being used should be illegal. These take away a person's ability to stop using or control themselves. Legalizing drugs that don't fall under these two circumstances will remove some of the petty arrests that make some prone to becoming repeat offenders or traffickers.

Prostitution should remain illegal when outside of a government regulated and standardized union so to speak. If someone wants to sell their body to someone who wants to pay, who cares? You take the prostitutes away from the pimps, you remove their income and influence. No one's gonna agree with me on this but its just what I think.

Better food programs. I'm a big believer in put good in, get good out. I think a lot of the perceived/observed sloth/obesity in the lower class comes from eating the sh1ttiest cheapest foods. I guarantee a healthier, better fed population is a more motivated one. Lets see what can be done about removing all empty calories from any government sponsored food program, whether it be school food, food stamps, or wic. Yeah its gonna cost more but it will save us money with healthcare and (in my opinion) productivity.

Time of course. This is unfortunately the most important thing. Race lines on the whole are blending more and more with each generation. As the segregationists die out, and immigration ramps up, people are going to be forced to learn to live in non-all-white neighborhoods and deal with each other in productive ways.

These are just a few thoughts and I'm not claiming this response to be the end all be all answer. Just a few directions to pursue. A lot of the black culture comes from distrust and hate, both coming and going. As some of our differences come together, your buddies with the weird names and crocked hats may not feel the need to rebel so much against the perceived normal white society. They need to be welcomed into our way of life and encouraged to share their cultural strengths, not forced into the way we do things. People at their core really need to be able to preserve who they are an where they come from. This is what all people want.

25% is not the same as 20 times.

And it didn't suggest 25% in the same jobs. Just 25% less.

No. I think they hold them captive and take all their money.

Ah I see, I mean you remove the pimps influence and money.

But what about a free market economy?

Since the government already $crews us they might as well become the pimps also.

I'm ok with brothels being run by private corporations as long as they're government regulated. Standardized worker rights, STD tests, etc. Ontario is attempting this now:

It's legal in Nevada.

It is in some counties of Nevada. I'd prefer some government standards though as I foresee rampant sexual abuse, lapse testing practices, non-equal pay. That kind of stuff.

You think government officials aren't corruptible?

I might have got some of my foresight from there.........
