We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal- Mart with seven kids... you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

So what's the best thing we can do as a society to help lower these numbers? As in laws considering that's what you really have to do to force people to change. Or whatever I dunno. The key is, what do you think the solution is to these numbers?

I understand the OPs point but its a baitng thread and I've promised myself to stay out of the stupid baiting threads since posting in the dead picture post.. Unfortunately that is pretty much all the P&R threads these days.

As sad as these stats are and the constant doomsday the media thrives on.. Lets remember that 2013 is currently trending to have the lowest murder rate the US has seen in over 100 years. One positive step to take (in my opinion): legalize some of the current illegal drugs - so much crime and law enforcement issues surround these.

I know exactly which thread you're talking about. I tried to stay out of that one too but I think I eventually caved.

So, de-leading the water may have historically helped reduce murder rates. I would have never thought of that one.

So what do you guys think about legalizing (I assume all) drugs? Would this be a way to help lower murders in the black community? Certainly gang activity is related to the drug trade.

Finally she got knocked up while in high school and dropped out of high school, never even finished the high school.

She had the same opportunity as any white, brown, green, red kid but she was eligible for the same money and grant as any other kid but in the neighborhood she was growing up it was acceptable that she did not finish the school and was preg with kid before even completing HS.

Same here.. First time I had heard of it.. I read another article some time back that was showing a linkage between the legalization of abortion and falling crime rates... I see that could be true but not sure what can be done with piece of information.

For sure, when you look at how many crazy little issues can have real effects on society, it starts to look like improvement is an impossible task. I think what we can take away from this piece of information is that there is a direct correlation to our collective mental well being and the quality of our food and drinking water.

No no, I'm trying to turn this into a type of round table discussion. The nature boy mentioned all public assistance. You both agreed culture was the biggest issue. The nature boy suggested removing all public assistance (minus SS because he may need it) as a way of bolstering self reliance among the black community. He hasn't got back to me on whether or not these cuts would be to all people or just blacks. But as I read your statement, it seemed as though self initiative (for the woman) or self respect (for the kid with the half crooked hat) are some of the issues that cause black on black crime to be so high. Correct me if I misinterpreted.

So, like I said, we're at it being a cultural problem. What can you and I (like I said assuming we're white middle class) do to help with this cultural issue or should we care?

I thought Americans Cultural Value is about Hard Work -> through hard work and human endeavor, one can improve their status in life.
