Just think of all the military families that would be sterilized.

They should sterilize the kids also, males and females.

What a great country we'd have. Millions of pissed off people that couldn't procreate. I'm sure there would be no resentment.

This is why the GOP is losing it's members. Idiotic ideas that are not based in reality.

Maybe take a look at the constitution.

Ah yes, armed pissed off people with no offspring and thus no legacy.

I can't see where that might be slightly problematic at all.

Better yet, setup camps to house the undesirables and have them work off their sentence after sterilization?

A place to "concentrate" all those who don't quite follow the rules.

These guys are priceless...

I must be missing something... Are people forced to get on the dole? Last time I checked, it was voluntary.

Last time I checked it was situational...meaning they didn't plan on it.

Do you think there is ZERO unemployment? Do you think nobody has ran out of unemployment insurance ever?

Do you actually believe everyone on assistance is ripping off the government?

So it would be better to allow them to starve and then they can decide to steal or kill to be fed?

I don't think you've really thought your great idea past a couple sentences.

I bet if birth control were free to everyone we could have less state dependent children and an intact democracy.

Gary and the nature boy know about it. Ask them the details. Oh wait, Gary is just acting. Ok ask nature boy.

All those things above are true. I think the point that is trying to being made is that if you can't take of yourself and the children you already have, it's probably not a good idea to have more children that require taxpayer support. Kinda hard to stop people from getting it on I guess. Maybe Depo-Provera might be something. I don't know. I just think it's irresponsible to have a bunch of kids that you have no means to support and then turn around and ask the taxpayers to support your irresponsible behavior.

Ohh and by the way, unemployment is usually not considered government assistance since companies pay into a fund. It would be like saying social security is government assistance when it's not.

That statement is easy to agree with. It's common sense to most of us. Hell, my husband and I are considering a baby and we're already stressed about the finances involved even though we both have well paying jobs. How some people don't worry about it doesn't compute with me.

Having kids without knowing how you're going to take care of them absolutely is irresponsible. So is expecting other people to pick up the slack.

I simply don't think that "forced sterilization" is a rational idea or argument.

If conservatives use SS as a percentage booster to figures supporting most of the country being on government assistance, why can't liberals use it as an example of a social program most people want and will use?

Well people and their employers pay something like a 15% FICA tax combined. There is no welfare tax that I'm aware of. If you're referring to Romney's quote about the 47%, I think he said that 47% of people don't pay Federal Income tax, which is true.

Not a country I'd want to live in where the government has the power to sterilize its people.

Only if you take the money. It's a trade off. I have a buddy that is an OB doc. He tells me the docs from Africa are amazed that we keep paying people to have babies. They seem to think paying them not to would produce better results

All the stats I saw come out of the Romney campaign about people receiving "government assistance" always included people receiving SS benefits.

I haven't seen the stats coming out of the Romney campaign. Maybe I have, I just don't remember. I'm talking about the 47% comment he made, which was true.

I don't consider SS to be government assistance. That's like saying Merril Lynch is giving me assistance when I retire because I'm cashing in my 401k.
