I had read the AOS step by step guide and was waiting for a letter informing us about our interview date. Instead, we just received the AOS letter saying my husband's permanent residence status had been approved. I had also been monitoring the AOS timeline and very few people had been receiving interview dates. Am I missing something? I'm happy that we did not have to go in for an interview, but the guide seemed to indicate we would have to for sure. Do the guide and timeline format need to be updated?

dancin5hr.gif Congratulations!!! :dancing:

Actually the step-by-step AOS Guide does mention the "no interview approval." From the Guide:

"Interview (in person) for Adjustment of Status

Eventually most people (see exception below) will receive a letter from the CIS informing you of your interview date. It will include instructions on what to bring to the interview and any required items you may need to complete before hand. One of the most critical items requested will be "evidence of the relationship" which proves that your marriage is true and faithful (i.e. photos, joint checking account, joint lease, joint mortgage, and birth certificates of children if any, etc.). Also, it is important to bring the current passport of the beneficiary to the interview. The interview is fairly painless and may be video recorded and lasts between 15-30 minutes. If approved you will be mailed your "green-card" shortly after the interview date (weeks).

Interview Exception. In some cases a beneficiary's Adjustment of Status case may be transfered to the California Service Center (possibly another location) where the CIS will attempt to complete processing without requirinig an "in person" interview. There is no particular way to know if this will happen to your case however if this does happen then you will not be required to attend an interview in person. If the I-485 is approved the beneficiary's green card will simply be mailed to them. "

There is about a 50/50 chance of not having an interview when adjusting from a K-1. As things are right now, those being approved without interview are having to wait a few months longer than those who are interviewed.

Yes, the guide mentions it, but the guide is a bit 'off' now. They are not transferred anywhere since last August. They now just stay at the NBC and are approved without interview.

First of all Congratulations to you! My husband also received a letter yesterday regarding his AOS being approved w/o us having to go through an interview! I was going to ask if I am missing something but same as you I am very happy not having to go through another step!

My question is, what's next??? Removing Condition? But before that if his work permit expires, does he have to reapply for it again even though he has permanent resident card?

The EAD is no longer valid, so need to worry about it at all. The green card allows for employment and re-entry when traveling. Within 90 days before your green card expires you will file for ROC > http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide

Save up all your evidence of co-mingling finances and co-habitation to span the entire length of your marriage. You will need it for ROC. Research here on VJ in the ROC forum about what you will need to send when the time comes > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/86-removing-conditions-on-residency-general-discussion/
