Some Syrian rebels expressed solidarity with the family of slain U.S. teen Trayvon Martin, posting a photo picked up by the Daily Beast, which said that Syrians know best “what it’s like to lose loved ones [to] immune criminals.”

The Syrian residents holding the sign are from the town of Katr, which has gained fame for making sarcastic and humorous posters about the Syrian revolution-turned-civil war over the past several years.

The Facebook page of rights activist Raed Fares included the photo of the pro-Martin poster.

“It’s very important to send our message to all the world,” Fares was quoted by the Daily Beast as saying. “And English is the public language.”

George Zimmerman, who was charged in the shooting death of Martin in 2012, was acquitted of second degree murder and manslaughter on Saturday night.

The acquittal triggered widespread outrage and protests.

On Monday afternoon, Zimmerman’s family released a statement to Martin’s family about the verdict.

“We are deeply sorry for this tragedy… and we pray for Trayvon Martin,” their message reads, according to media reports including ABC News
