No file now and at least start the processing. You can always upgrade once you get naturalized.

Hi thank you for reply. But do you think filing now would expedite my i130 petition for my wife since the f2a is current?

It is my understanding that even if you file now, you still have to wait for your petition to be approved, which is what is causing the delay now that F2A is Current. There are some people here who filed in late 2011, who still have not been approved, and therefore cannot get the visa eventhough the category is current. They first have to wait for NOA2 saying their petition is approved. Which is what you would have to wait for if you file now.

File now to get a place in the queue and upgrade the petition once you naturalise. There is no reason to wait.

My F2A/IR-1 journey:

USCIS:
4 August 2011: I-130 sent (while husband permanent resident)
8 August 2011: Priority date
16 April 2013: NOA2

NVC:

7 May 2013: Case number received, DS-3032 sent

15 May 2013: AOS bill received and paid

16 May 2013: AOS package sent

17 May 2013: DS-3032 accepted

20 May 2013: IV bill received and paid

21 May 2013: IV package sent

11 June 2013: response to IV checklist sent

13 June 2013: Case upgraded to CR1

2 July 2013: Case completed

28 August 2013: Interview - approved!

21 September 2013: POE

18 November 2013: Green card received

My husband's citizenship journey:

8 February 2013: N-400 sent
4 March 2013: Biometrics
24 April 2013: Interview
12 June 2013: Oath ceremony

There is no way of knowing how long it will take to get an approval. If you click on the Processing Times link at the top, you can then choose the service center to see how long it is taking to get approved. For the California Service Center (CSC), the processing date for i-130 for spouse of an LPR was stuck in September 2011 for over 6 months. This month it finally moved to November 2011. So theoretically, petitions that were filed around November 2011 should be getting their approval some time soon. However, there are people here who filed their petition as late as October 2012 and have already received their approval notice; while others who filed in the last quarter of 2011 (Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec 2011), still have not received their approval notice. So as you can see, the November 2011 date posted for the CSC is not 100% accurate.

The fact that F2A is current is great news for those that have already received their approval notice (NOA2), because they can immediately continue with their process without having to wait any extra time for their priority date to become current. Whereas in the past, once you received your NOA2, you had to wait for the priority date specified in NOA1 to become current in the visa bulletin.
