You were positive he was going to prison due to the law and a jury who would clearly see things your way.

and we were all going to be in melt down just like after the election, and he was going to have such much reminding all us nut job tea baggers how wrong we were.

Funny how that worked and he has been Mr. Lost Dog rofl.gifrofl.gifrofl.gifrofl.gif

My mother called me the night of the verdict on the verge of tears. I was in NYC at the rally with folks who felt the same way. I've posted tons of article where black men are killed and the folks that kill them get off or do so little time, it's a shame.

I'll ask you, do you really think we are treated as equal? When was the last time a white kid was killed for being suspicious? When was the last time a white man was shot in the back because the cop "thought" it was a taser? When white folks go on killing sprees, no one talks about killing them on here, we just debate gun control, or even better, say look at the black community first.

I've been profiled, a victim of police brutality, treated with disdain, not allowed some places because of my skin color. Why do you think I act the way I do? I can't act a fool and be taken seriously, since most folks don't want to be able to tell the difference.

Do you know what my mother said to me when I got back? Burn all of your hoodies at home. I told her I won't because I shouldn't have to.

No, I don't think blacks are treated as equals. Taking up this particular cause is counter-productive to changing that. What I am saying is that in order to make a change, you have to be pragmatic. The bottom line is TM beat the hell out of GZ. No way around that. This cause is a loser.

The cop shooting the guy because he thought he was drawing his Taser. I don't know all the details, but there seems to be something wrong there.

In order to be taken seriously, you have to take up a serious cause. This GZ/TM thing is not a serious cause. There are plenty of cases (some you mentioned above) where minorities should be focusing their attention. I think the problem is that the only racial conversation that is going on concerns this trial and it's outcome. This case is a pimple on a bugs a$$ compared to the other things you've mentioned above.

In my mind the racists win if the only thing that is being discussed is this trial. It's very easy for the racists to say "Look they got everything they wanted. second degree murder charge, etc. etc. and they still can't be happy.)

It's a very short sighted approach to a much larger problem.

I don't know how anyone can tell you that you're overreacting or shouldn't think the way you do unless they've walked in your shoes.

To deny that black people are treated as if they're inferior is to deny a reality that many face every day.

I literally know one black person in super white suburban Wisconsin. One. A friend of my husband's. And he's a successful business owner, treats others with respect, hasn't done anything wrong to anyone in his whole life.

And he still gets called the n-word by people he deals with in his business (he runs a food delivery service)

He's still yelled at when he walks down the street. For no reason. He isn't "looking suspicious". He dresses well. He speaks properly. It doesn't matter. His skin color is different and so he's treated poorly. Not by the majority, but it doesn't have to be the majority to make it a problem.

And the second we let it get to us, now we are the animals and we justify them killing us in that fashion. It's a reality we have to live with every minute of the day. It took every ounce of my strength not to say something at the rally, to speak out and say what I was feeling at the time. The police were right there, with the zip ties and guns, ready to shut it down. My wife grabbed my arm and dug into it and pulled me away. Later on when I wasn't talking to her, she said I know you want to fight, you want to be down there with them, but you're with me, you have kids to think about, you're close to 20 years of service, I can't let you fight a battle that will land you in jail or worse.

I was wrong. So what? That happens to all of us, doesn't it? I understand that it's a bit stunning since it happens to me very rarely but I am not 100% immune from being wrong once every blue moon.

only if you point it out.

Majority drop out rates rampant teen pregnancy to unwed mothers, Blacks killing blacks daily, generation after generation in Govt housing and on benefits..

Yet oddly the TM shooting is the biggest crisis in their lives.

That's exactly it right there.

No, some people here are always right. No matter what.

I don't know what's so hard to understand ... the jury made the right verdict given the facts they were presented and the instructions they had to follow. That's over and done with, of course.

What's left to discuss, however, is the law that caused that verdict in the first place. Florida's self defense laws have been questioned for YEARS. This case just happened to highlight them once again.

Understood, but the person now criticizing Florida law was 100% positive that Zimmerman was going to be put away because of the law and the sympathetic jury and he posted the same ad nauseam multiple times per day for months on end.

Okay, I'll say it once more for the cheap seats in the back: I WAS WRONG.

Got it now?

I get that. He was wrong. He admitted he was wrong, which is a lot more than most people do around here.

He isn't the only person criticizing the law. The jurors are doing it too, which I find a bit telling.

Sad thing is we are already used to it. I said it a while ago he would walk. Because we don't matter as much.

If we could get the black community as interested in high school drop out rates, black on black crime, gangs, children having children as we can TM you might matter a whole lot more.

They made a movie about it called Frutivale Station, just came out the day before the verdict. Michael B Jordan was the main character, he had an interview Saturday night, he had to compose himself after the verdict.

I'm glad you made the observation clear, the reason it's a big deal because it keeps happening over and over again. With all that's happening within the black community, we have enough to worry about with drugs, gangs, and the other stuff.
