But military personnel and civilians are different . I would expect you to have a better level of response than a civilian. Also your wages are paid through taxes. Ordinary people guys like you to handle the dreadful responsibility of whether to shoot or not.

How are they different?

Absolutely.

Nine times out of ten simply saying hello or making some type of verbal contact with a burglar or similar petty criminal is enough to deter the crime. GZ suspected TM was looking for things to steal. Asking him what he was doing would've most likely prevented that crime.

People keep saying "He only got out because he had a gun." For those of us who carry guns daily, there's no increase in motivation to attempt aggressive actions - if anythong there's an element of, "I should be more careful." - because carrying a handgun is defensive in nature. It's not there to do something, it's there in caze something happens.

GZ never asked him what he was doing? He never said who he was. He was scared to give his address out. He only said "I don't have a problem" which of course was a lie.

I guess if you just follow and make someone feel threatened that's ok, as long as the person being pursued does everything except defend himself?

A person that can't fight at all should never pursue anyone they feel is breaking a law...it's dangerous. Well unless they can fall back on a firearm. Which is what happened.

Reginald Denny is why I carry an AK in the Jeep.

Why is someone carrying a gun "looking for trouble" when they're following someone?

Wow...that's paranoid.

That's a one out of a billion event.

Play lottery, you have better chances of hitting that, then needing the AK.

You have a better chance of getting it stolen than anything.

And when you hit the innocent bystanders be prepared for the trial.

like most. i'm sure his is for sport/entertainment.

Nothing in any of his posts today about that AK-47 implies that, to me.

Especially "Reginald Denny is why I carry an AK in the Jeep."

I think anyone who simply throws caution to the wind and "trusts that everything will be alright" is delusional. I believe they have issues. Taking off the rose colored glaasses would help but they're not optical issues.

Trusting the military and/or law enforcement more than your common neighbor civilian is stupid. They're humans just like everyone else and just because they use firearms more frequently doesn't mean they make any better - or worse - decisions than anyone else.

Funny that knowing how to fight is a pre-requisite for following someone bit having a gun is going too far. I'd argue being a good citizen and concerned member of your community is all that's necessary to try stoppimg crime around your house.

As per whom ?

You need to get out girl.... AKs are most reliable thats one of the reason why they are so popular.

See, I'm not a man if I don't know about guns

You need to get out. People don't get pulled out of cars at a higher rate than aks jam in the us.

"Trayvon said, 'What are you following me for?' and the man said, 'What are you doing here?'

Thats the statement from star witness.

GZ probably should have said who he was. A simple introduction and explanation as to why he was following him would have gone a long way.

The entire incident probably would have been avoided.

I don't have any issues with people carrying a gun to protect themselves. It has nothing to do with "believing everything will be alright" - bad things happen to people all the time.

Who wants to walk around in a world where everyone is carrying AK-47s? For "defense"? Against WHO? The government? There are plenty of people in this country who are not fit to carry around a weapon like that. But unfortunately, they can and do.

What is going to happen to you where the only answer is a weapon like an AK-47?

The entire incident probably would have been avoided.

"Hey man, I'm neighborhood watch. Just want to make sure you're okay since you look lost."

That's it. Likely wouldn't have caused a confrontation. No way to know for sure, but it definitely would have been better than a simply "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" It sounds accusatory.

I like how many of you selectively use her statements when it fits your argument, but dismiss the rest of that testimony which stated GZ confronted TM and instigated the fight.

But your agenda is paper thin...
