WASHINGTON — The Justice Department says it is looking into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin to determine whether federal prosecutors should file criminal civil rights charges now that George Zimmerman has been acquitted in the state case.

The department opened an investigation into Martin's death last year but stepped aside to allow the state prosecution to proceed.

In a statement Sunday, the Justice Department said the criminal section of the civil rights division, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office for the Middle District of Florida are continuing to evaluate the evidence generated during the federal probe, in addition to the evidence and testimony from the state trial.

The statement said that, in the government's words, "experienced federal prosecutors will determine whether the evidence reveals a prosecutable violation."

Maybe they can look into this case also if they have that much concern with justice being served! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nationnow/2011/12/fast-and-furious-atf-agents-death.html

and as I said many weeks ago... Here we go. This whole thing is a racially motivated farce. We knew what would happen when the facts came out, and we also knew what would happen when the facts proved he was not guilty.

The racist machine will not stop until GZ is behind bars. The feds will come after him . The prosecution will be vilified and will be sorry they ever touched this joke of injustice.,

Everything I have said would happen has happened.

Makes sense. After all minorities have a basic civil right to pound the injustice right out of creepy crackers

After all those years of blacks living under the civil rights violations, lynchings and injustice suddenly that same feeling is not so good is it? That kind of makes you angry right?

I love the total disgust now that it feels it's been reversed. Spending some time at the back of the proverbial bus sucks doesn't it?

Classic...lol

Not saying its right, just saying "how's that really feel?"

Now multiply by 400 years and you might get a small tiny infinitesimal idea where the angst comes from. Until you get that, you won't understand anything.

Here is the main difference in the two camps

Camp 1- thinks that GZ was viciously attacked by a very troubled 17 year old. Up until TM committed Assault, neither party had broken any laws. we think that if you are assaulted you have the right to defend yourself.

Camp 2- Think this is all about race and that TM was killed for being black and that GZ had no right to use a gun against TM, Despite a preponderance of evidence they shows TM was on top of him beating the ####### out of him

Oddly camp 2 thinks Camp are racist, even though they never brought race into it .

Oddly enough I agree with everything you just said, with the exception of it's reversed. Racism is racism. No such thing as reverse.

I am glad you see the injustice for what it is. However the fact you recognize it is an injustice and still are supporting it gives me pause.

I agree and have said 100 times white people just can't throw up their hands and go I never owned slaves and expect everything to be all right.

By the same token, blacks can't demand equality and standards of fairness but not live by them, it's going to backfire at some point.

I think the anger is far beyond this trial.

When a minority, especially a black person enters the justice system as a defendant they are always treated more harshly than a Caucasian defendant. When they enter as a victim they are demonized and stereotyped, as was attempted in this trial.

You can't say that's totally inaccurate.

The anger comes from what seems as little effort to address and rectify those two truths.

It has nothing to do with slaves.

It has to do with recent past and ongoing injustice.

If you are not in power your so called "racism" has little to no effect. Even with a half black president I've seen attitudes towards blacks get worse, not better.

I didn't say it was right, I said to understand and help alleviate the anger you have to actually feel the effect of discriminative actions being put on you and no, affirmative action is not an oppressive regime and after only 30 years whites are fed up with that equality measure.

Keep in mind, nobody was shot or beaten over AA and it still makes people seethe with anger.

I don't that anyone who isn't black can truly understand it in this country. And perhaps there are other minorities who have been treated similarly in other countries around the globe. If it's not you or a loved one, it's not quite to same.

That's all I'm saying.

Sure some blacks appear to come off abrasive, but they aren't hunting down white people in anger either. I'd say for what they've had to endure and continue to endure they've held back a great deal.

To move forward in this country would take work from both sides. Right now I think both sides are truly "standing their ground" and nobody is going to win that.

Like I said, it's not all about this trial.

Don't make the assumption that everyone in your camp 1 is like you. Many on this board are racist as #######. In my view, they are making it about race as much as your camp 2. Just read some of your supporters. They're not saying troubled young black man. If they thought they could get away with it, they'd use a word they no doubt use regularly amongst friends in real life.

I think things are a little bit better here than they are in the South.
