1. Original Forms DS-230 Part 1 for each applicant (including children.) Please make sure that all questions have been answered – including all employment and education information. Please also make sure that you have a name, mailing address and phone number for your U.S. sponsor listed in either box 10 or 11. If someone else filled out the forms on your behalf, please make sure to thoroughly review the answer for each and every question as you will be held legally responsible for all the answers.

2. Two copies of Form DS-156 for each applicant (including children). Please make sure that all the questions on the form have been answered.

3. One copy of Form DS-156K. Only the fiancée needs to fill out this form – children are not required to submit this document. Please make sure that all questions on the form have been answered but do NOT sign the form.

4. Two copies of Form DS-157 for each applicant (including children.) Please make sure that all the questions on the form have been answered.

5. 2 photographs for each applicant – please make sure you are looking directly at the camera and your full face is showing. The photo must have a white background and have been taken within the past SIX months. The size of the photos should be 2 inches square (5 cm x 5 cm). 6. The visa fee of $240 U.S. dollars in cash for each applicant (including children).

7. Birth Certificate and Certified English translation for each applicant.

8. Iraqi ID Card and Certified English translation for each applicant.

9. Certificate of Nationality and Certified English translation for each applicant.

10. Valid passport for each applicant. Please note that only G and A series passports that are valid for at least nine months will be accepted.

11. Family Book “Qayd 57” issued by the Nationality Directorate (Mudeeriyat Al-Jenssiyah) and Certified English translation for each applicant.

12. Marriage Certificate and Certified English translation (if applicable).

13. Divorce / Death Certificate for all previous marriages and Certified English translation (if applicable).

14. Custody documents – if you have children from a previous marriage and the children are applying for visas, please be prepared to submit either a notarized letter from your previous spouse stating that he/she has no objection to the children immigrating to the U.S. or a court order giving you SOLE custody of the children.

15. Police /Court Certificate(s) or Certificate of No Conviction – This document is mandatory for all individuals over the age of 14. For information on how to apply for a police certificate, please contact the directory of criminal information or your nearest police station.

16. Original I-134 Affidavit of Support signed by the petitioner (if not already submitted to the National Visa Center). Please also make sure to bring copies of the petitioner’s 2010 federal income tax returns, W2 forms and any other proof of assets. If the petitioner is unemployed or his/her income is below poverty guidelines, you will need to obtain a joint sponsor.

17. Proof of the relationship between the petitioner and the applicant such as emails, letters, phone bills, remittance receipts, instant message transcripts, photos, etc. (Please note that CD or DVDs containing photos are not acceptable).

I say show up with all that you have,

and if you are scant, short, on some things, tell the Vice Consul. The interview will happen, regardless, and you'll be given an opportunity to submit the rest of the documents after the interview .

In the meantime, if you pay extra fees for expediting, can't you get the documents faster?
