Hello everyone! Any February AOS filers or Atlanta filers here?

February AOS filer, with biometrics done on 3/17. Still no EAD nor change of status on USCIS website!

It could be worst, I could still be stuck out of the country with ma partner, or even worse, without him!

Hopefully this shall pass soon!

Hi Everybody! We finally got married on Saturday and are so happy to be together and official. It was a great day joining friends and family from the US and the UK.

Question for those already having applied for AOS: Do you have any special advice on filling out applications and providing evidence? Anything that you wish you had done differently or things we should remember to include?

A lot of the paperwork is repetitive of information that we already provided during the visa process. (Shocking, isn't it?) The important thing is that now we're finally together, so if they want to see yet more paper, have at it as far as we're concerned. We're just so happy to be together!

It looks like our timeline is similar now. We got married on April 7 in Maryland. It was a wonderful day for us. Vaccinations were done at a CS a week later so the that part of I-693 went with the I-485. I just happened to see all the wonderful replies from you both here, which reminded me to update my timeline. The I-485 and I-765 just went out in the mail today to Chicago. Let's keep each other posted and good luck.

We eventually got engaged last three weeks and now are planning a trip to New York to get married before coming back to file I-130 CR-1 in Bangkok. Has anyone gone or going through the same process at this consulate? I like also to hear the experience of getting married in New York from any of you. Thank you very much!

i would suggest you to start K1 fiance visa process rather than file I-130. (processing time for I-130 is much longer than K1)

i know US consulate denies the majority of tourist B2 visas in Thailand and in order to get to the US for getting married that is the visa you will be needing.

If you want to make the process faster apply for a K-1 fiance visa at the embassy in Bangkok. This process is much shorter than applying as a spouse. Look at the guide in this forum for information. it appears a bit overwhelming at first but is doable.

Listen does anyone know if a spouses health insurance benefit is supposed to be federally taxed??

I was told this when enrolling my husband in my employers health insurance. I am pretty upset about it!

No! Your HR department is misinformed. That changed in September of last year after the IRS guidelines were updated. So tell your hr people to get up on the changes. Now if you do not have a "marriage" but a civil union you may be taxed. I'm not sure about states that don't recgonize gay marriage. They may be able to tax you on the state level. But the feds have said even in states that don't have gay marriage you are still tax exempt on your spousal benefits.

If your employer provides health insurance coverage to employee spouses (including same-sex spouses), then the employer-paid health insurance amount is not included in the employee's gross income for federal income tax purposes. Under the Affordable Care Act, the amount of employer-paid premiums will now appear on your W-2, but that is for informational purposes only and does not mean that those benefits are subject to federal income tax.

Wow thank you. So where should I direct them to learn? They seem to be completely in the dark! We have a legal marriage in NY.

Congrats and good luck. I am wondering if we have to submit the I-693 - he already had the overseas medical and we have the DS-3025 with vaccinations. I am reading different things online whether we should send the form or not. What are others doing who are applying for AOS?
