David, if you'd like to exchange emails, I'd be happy to expound on our experience. I think it might be helpful to you and your partner, since we started with our I-129F last August. jerryinsf@gmail.com

Jerry

Thanks for your kind offer. I sent you an email.

Timeline

After years of long-distance relationship, my fiancé's visa was approved on Mar 5, 2014 the anniversary day of our engagement 7 years ago! We had been able to meet a couple of months each year, but all that travel gets tiring. After DOMA repeal, we filed our I-129F petition in Aug 2013, and his K-1 interview was on Mar 4th. My fiancé has the FIRST same-sex fiancé visa issued in Pakistan! Embassy staff were curious and excited also, and were very considerate and helpful. Needless to say, my fiancé and I are exceedingly happy and I can't wait until he arrives in San Francisco!

Congrats! We just had our K-1 interview and approval from the Panama embassy a few days ago. They also told us we were the first same-sex visa case they have handled in Panama. They were extremely courteous and professional. It's nice to see things working in everyone's favor the past few months!

Congrats to all of you! While we will not be the first same-sex couple to go through the Sydney Consulate, I think we will be the first stand-alone I-130 to go through. We married in March 2013, and I filed the I-130 the day after DOMA was repealed.

We are in la-la land at NVC at the moment. We have every piece of paper ready to go as soon as we get our case number and our invoices!

We expect that it will have taken us just about one year from start to finish - way too long - but at least it will be over!

We are also a same-sex couple. Our interview is on April 3, 2014 in Santo Domingo. I hope all goes well as we may be the first same-sex interview for that consulate. If there are any other same-sex couples that have had an interview in Santo Domingo, please chime in.

As you probably know, the current US ambassador to the DR is gay, and his husband has accompanied him to the posting. So I would expect that you'll be treated quite courteously. Good luck with your interview

Just picked up my K-1 fiancé visa from 2Go courier service. The yellow packet I will be presenting to the CBP immigration officers at the POE is a little over 1 inch thick. Good thing my USC fiancé and I (beneficiary) will be entering the USA together, as I've read we can now fill up a single customs form as a family.

Check my timeline for K-1 visa & AOS details

Effective January 17, 2014, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) broadened the definition of "members of a family residing in one household" to include long-term same-sex couples and other domestic relationships. Visit cbp.gov/travel for more information.

Do LPRs come through the US line? Just wondering what will happen when my partner comes through CBP for the first time (with her green card!) - as we'll be traveling together. Just don't know how you have one customs form when one person has to do through the US citizen line, and the other has to go through the Visitor line....

She ought to be able to go with you through the citizen line, but if not you can go with her through the visitor line. Some airports even have a new immigrant line. Just ask a person directing people where to stand.

I think it depends on the port of entry. I've read here on VJ about non-USC fiances being made to line up with their USC partners in the line for US citizens, but other stories tell something else (i.e., being made to line up in different lines). However, stories of couples being split up at the immigration lines are from before these new guidelines dated January 2014.

It's probably best to ask a CBP immigration officer at the port of entry as to how to proceed.

If she has her Green Card, she does not have to go through the visitor line, she should go with you through the USC line
