My fiancé is on his way across the ocean to NY for the holidays once again. This time is more special since it's the last time before returning in March or April for the wedding! Everyone please hope for no major difficulties at Newark immigration. They can sometimes be a little tough. But he is armed with mortgage statements, work contract, NOA2 and proposal for wedding in April. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Interview was scheduled at 11:00 AM. We arrived around 10:30 AM. We were called in around 10:45, the officer lady took us to the office, sworn us in and started asking some questions like birth dates of each other, when we got married (my wife made a mistake here she said July but immediately rectified) I was asked about my signature. My wife says we were asked if we had a garage and if we had a garage opener (I can't remember this, it was probably after the wedding date and that stressed me out). It was very fast, then she asked if we had credit cards in common (we do,too many in my opinion) but we gave her all including a AAA card and a SAMS card. Then she asked to put on top everything else we had while she was making copies of the credit cards. We had mortgage papers, statements, bills, but I forgot to bring copies, :-( but since I had the packet we sent we were able to get some of the copies from there and well the bills can get a copy from the internet, then she said that that was everything. I told her we had pictures, but she said that it was enough with the ones she had but we never went through them. I asked if she could tell us something and she said no because it could change while reviewing the papers, she only told us that we submitted more evidence that many and that we should receive a notice in 10 days. We were out a couple of minutes later than 11:00 but I want to KNOW.

My wife is very optimistic about it but this waiting is killing me

Our case was approved Dec.12th. It took longer than I expected becasue I was hoping for an interview before the end of December. Anyway, to make long story short, my work contract is over tomorrow (Dec. 20th). My friend, Robert, from this site, told me to work a little longer until my fiance's interview. I work as a design engineer, but work by contract to contract. I chose to work by contract because once the contract is over, I can go spend 2-3 months per year with her. As of tomorrow, I will be without a job. I didn't continue my contract because I will be going over to Laos to help her with the paperwork and be with her for the interview.

Need help on two items:

1. Filling out I-134 form, what do I put for "I am employed as of Design Engineer, with _____"? I got a letter of employemt from my company and they said upon my return (March 2014) they are interested in working with me again. Should I leave it blank or put in the company's name? What should I put for my derive annual income? If I put $0, will my $50K in 401k, $18K (my car, paid off), current mortage loan and assessment value letter (difference of $60K), qualify for the 5 times assets needed?

2. Do I need the NVC letter for the Packet to turn into the embassy? I am afraid that it might not arrive before I leave. On average, CSC, take 3-5 weeks to mail the packet to the embassy.

Sorry, said I would make it short but I guess I have alot to ask once I started typing. Thanks again for you advice and inputs.

Let's see if this doesn't answer your questions. Maybe someone can add something if needed.

If you are planning on using assets only they use 125% of the federal poverty level. This amounts to $19387 for 2 people. So, you will need assets that are 5 times this which is $96,935.

If you will be using your house as assets I think you will need to have it apprised.

I don't think the packet thing happens everywhere. As you probably know there is no home mail delivery in Laos so the embassy doesn't send anything more out.

I will probably be able to tell you next week what happens in Laos next.

You need to wait until the NVC is able to get you a case number. Can you have a family member send over the letter from the NVC via DHL?

Hope this helps.

Robert

We will be using my USC fiance's assets for the I-134 because he quit his job at a big IT firm in the US in November 2012 (for whom he had been working for almost 15 years) so we can spend our life together in my home country while waiting for DOMA to be declared unconstitutional.

If the total cash in a US bank plus 401K plus stocks and bonds is way more than $100K, are we golden with the affidavit of support when it comes to the visa interview or could there be further issues?

Anyone from the Philippines? We heard only 2 same sex couples were approved here in the country.

we were the second couple approved, though an article in the Philippines details a male/male couple and a female/female couple as being approved on dec 2d . received a personal letter of congratulations from the consulate. visa arrived two weeks later and he flew 7 days after that. immigration at airport was cake. my partner did say that others had been interviewed before us but they didn't have enough evidence to be approved. that is why i say to everyone take/send more than you think is enough and know the information that is in the packet.
