I have a question about the expiration date of the passport. I filled a petition for my wife and daughter, and it's time for the consular appointment in Ciudad Juarez.

We have an appointment on August 9, but my question is about my daughter's passport has an expiration date to January 2013, and at the time of the appointment in August, the passport shall be valid for 5 months only, and I've heard over there it is necessary that the passport be valid for at least 6 months, but not very clear to me the concept if they are 6 months at the time of the appointment, or if you only offer is sufficient that the passport is valid.

If someone has been in this same situation and I could share his experience, Thanks

I can get a new passport before the appointment, it only takes 2 weeks. And, yes expires on Jan 2014.

And to be clear, she's in Mexico and is mexican, she's applying for IR2 visa, and she will get the visa printed on the mexican passport.

She should have her passport as new as possible when you go to the interview. The visa they put in the passport will be valid for 6 months after the medical date (or interview date) so her passport needs to be valid for at least that long. Also this will be her temporary green card until her actual one arrives in the mail. Sometimes getting new passports out of country is annoying. Getting it renewed will help with any travel you guys do after POE too.

I will renew the passport ASAP, the problem in mexico is not issuing passports with validity more than 1 year for children under 3 years, and just got my daughter's passport in January this year, as it is required by the NVC send a copy of the valid passport biographical sheet.

Thanks for the answer!

Only a year long passport? Hrm... I guess then you don't still have a baby picture for a 5 year old. Hopefully they charge significantly less for them. :(
