Hello Vjyers! I have a question about the connectting flight from Philippines to US. I booked a one way ticket from MNL-NRT-HNL-DFW. It will be with Japan and American airlines with different flight numbers. My parents will have a check-in baggage. Do they still need to claim the baggage during the layover and check-in again? or will the airline will do this for them? Nakalimutan ko na kase before nong time ko.. lol. Thanks in Advance

In Japan they will not need to claim their bags, the airlines will transfer their luggage to the next aircraft.

In Honolulu after they clear Immigrations (POE) then they will claim their luggage to clear customs, after that they need to check their luggage back in. There is a luggage check-in to the left after clearing customs, just not sure if that is for Hawaiian airline only or all airlines (I have always flown Hawaiian). If its just for Hawaiian all the other airlines are one level up, elevators are to the right side after customs, through the double doors then right again.

Thanks Hank. Ok, Since the layover wait time at Honolulu is 9hrs, how many hours before the flight could they check-in their luggage?

I am not sure on that, I never had more than 3 hours between flights, but I would believe you should be able to check the luggage back in immediately. I would suggest making a call to the airlines

I had a 13 hour layover in Beijing once. That was the worst!!
