I really hope this is the end of it. The justice system is not always perfect but in a case where physical evidence is scant at best, I can quite see why the jury (why was it a jury of six btw?) didn't feel confident in convicting. This certainly does not mean that guys with guns can or will go around shooting people willy nilly either ,that's asinine. The circumstances behind this acquittal are unique to this case and I am sure people are not so daft as to assume that somehow this means that you can just shoot people you do not like the look of. Encouraging any one to feel that this is, or even might be the case is manipulative and does no one any good at all.

I did not say it was to learn how to defend or anything about learning to defend yourself. I said that part of the class is learning the rules about when a weapon should and should not be used. This includes the guidelines on self-defense.

Vermont has none and has a lower crime and accident rate than Florida. Florida needs to get rid of their concealed permits and let anyone carry for the protection of the public.

Driver training is more extensive because car accidents kill more than 40 times the number of people that firearm accidents kill. Deaths from firearms accidents by CCW license holders are microscopically low. Seems like drivers ed should be at least 40 times more difficult.

Drivers training also results in a license to drive valid in ALL states, usually for a lifetime after one test when you are 16 years old and just paying a fee for renewal every 2-6 years. No criminal background checks and in many states they are issued to illegal immgrants. Are you suggesting that we have concealed carry licenses valid in all states? I think we should, what about you? Should we drop the criminal background checks and issue them to illegal immigrants? I think we should. We did in Vermont and it works great.

I mean if we are to compare driving and guns... CCW permits issued to 16 year olds? Maybe CCW learners permits issued to 15 year olds so they can carry concealed in the company of their parents. Seems like good training and you favor training, right? No age limit to buy and possess firearms, just as there is none to buy a car.

CCW classes offered in High School, even required in High School, just like driver's ed. I'm up for it. Additional training is is good, right?

Florida uses a jury of 5 for anything except capital offenses. I know, very strange. Usually a felony gets a jury of 12 in most states.

As we see from this trial it is not possible to shoot people "willy nilly" nor is that done...anywhere. Assuming it will be or was is ridiculous. In most states a shooting by an armed citizen is presented to a Grand Jury who decides if the shooting was justifed and whether to indict or not. I have no problem with this. It should not just be the police chief or local sheriff that decides if a shooting was justified. Far from Willy Nilly, GZs life is messed for a long time and his best consolation is "at least I am alive" There isn't much else he takes away from this.

Again, Florida does not require a Grand Jury review, it is optional except for Capital offenses. GZ would have been "no billed" by any Grand Jury in the USA and never charged. They wanted to avoid that because they had to try and appease racists who are not appeased at all. This was a "Cover Our @ss" trial.

Screw this little burglar. There is no hypocrisy greater than in this community. This community rallies around, enshrines, and promotes to sainthood a pot smoking burglar who was killed while red-handedly attacking someone in front of an eyewitness.

They don't give a rats a$$ about a kid riding home on his bike or a kid playing ball who is randomly shot.

The goal of this community is to incite racial hatred and violence in the hopes of political gain. They speak of "innocent victims" and focus on the rights of stone cold guilty perpetrators of crime and violence. Fourteen-year-old Damani family moved to Oak Park from Chicago about a year ago, hoping to escape the violence that shook the blocks around their home in Humboldt Park.

But the family wasn't overly concerned Tuesday evening when he decided to ride his bike to a friend's house in the old neighborhood.

"I'll see you when you get home," his mother, Yolanda Paige, recalled saying to her son in a telephone conversation just before he left.

The teenager was on his way home early Wednesday morning when he was fatally shot in the 5000 block of West North Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, police said.

July 9th, during the trial

Three people, including a 15-year-old boy, were shot to death on the West Side Monday afternoon, police said.

Hours later, three others were injured in separate shootings on the South Side.

The 15-year-old boy, Ed Cooper, was shot in the chest about 5:08 p.m. in the 600 block of North Lawndale Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was declared dead at 5:54 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Cooper lived in the 1200 block of South Kostner Avenue.

Police were dispatched to the block following a report of a person shot and found the boy, O'Brien said.

The boy was playing a ballgame at the playground of Laura Ward Elementary School, formerly Ryerson Elementary, 646 N. Lawndale Ave., when he was shot, according to a relative who did not want to give her name. Ryerson was one of 49 elementary schools closed this June by the district.

Please explain to me why you quoted my post and then proceeded to make statements as if you read the opposite of what I actually posted? Far from suggesting that GZ shot willy nilly, I said that the verdict could not be used as an excuse to shoot at people willy nilly just because you don't like the look of them and that those who are making such suggestions are using the verdict to manipulate anyone who is daft enough to believe that this is a credible outcome. I posited a 'fix' for Chicago, a coupla weeks ago... It was easy, simple, and basic. I'll repeat it.

Give all of the mothers in the zone 3 touch tasers and 18 sets of 30 inch zip ties. Each mother is responsible for turning over 4 gang members to the police. Once a mother has turned over 4 gang members? She gets 1000 in cash and 18 hours of college credit paid in advance at a school of her choice.

The fix really should come from the mothers who live in the zone, dontcha think? Gives them a personal, vested interest in clearing out the cesspool.
