On the verge of canceling Netflix. May check it out before since its one season

Hated friends btw

I loved friends until I broke up with the girl who got me to watch it with her.

"I'll be there for you, cause you're there for me too...."

Then suddenly the theme song made me gag.

Funny how break ups do that.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

D*mmit, I'm always late to the game.

Decided to read through the backlog of posts because I'm bored out of my mind, when I hit this:

Homicide in Chicago is down 37% this year. More young black men are alive today because of concealed carry.

Got a little bit of nostalgia in my heart because it was almost the exact same comment that prompted my very first response in the P&R forum. Awwwww wub.png

Unfortunately my obligatory-because-this-is-my-state response isn't too much different despite the passage of time:

Illinois enacted conceal carry on July 9th... as in, the Tuesday before last. State police haven't even begun accepting applications yet.

But thank you, the nostalgia was nice content.gif

I do find it a little strange that Chicago has suddenly become the poster child for violent crime given the fact that it's actually gone down significantly.

I wonder why that is... rolleyes.gif

Anyways, back to page 6...

More than anything I love comments from the uninformed.

The court ruling was in December 2012 and required Illinois to accept the CC permits of other states until the IL legislature enacted legislation of its own. Since it is "your state" you would have read about that and also noticed that all over IL there were training classes being held for other states non-resident permits. Both my oldest son, who lives in Huntley, and my brother, who lives in Byron, were legally carrying concealed in January of this year along with 10s of thousands of other IL residents who had non-resident concealed carry permits from other states. My son has a permit from Florida, my brother has one from Utah.

Chicago has become the most recent poster child for the success of concealed carry.

Anyways...If you are bored, you may perhaps consider reading the court decision, follow that up with a study of how classes for other states permits were in high demand in IL, and a study of which state's permits were most popular for issuance to IL residents...and why. Fascinating stuff. I could tell you in detail, including the numbers issued by other states but...I am not bored.

What is also interestimg, perhaps most interesting, is that despite the objections of Quinn and Emanuel there was no challenge to the SCOTUS. I was a bit disappointed as were most NRA members. We were kinda hoping this case would go to the SCOTUS and force the remaining 5 discrimanatory states to also issue permits on a "shall issue" basis. As it is, only IL was affected as the other states in this judicial district were already recognizing the constitutional individual right to carry firearms.

We should also not forget thousands of residents of all of IL's neighboring states who happen to be in IL. Each non-resident license plate now represents another possible CC person. Since last December, if TM tried his ground and pound sht in IL, he could be GZ'd by a guy from Dubuque...or Kenosha...or even Paducah.

The good news for you is that your crime is being reduced. Everyone is happy about that.

Link, please. I can't find a single source to back this up. Even pro-gun sites are saying Illinois doesn't accept permits from other states.

Also, not sure what classes prove. It will become available so it's not unbelievable that classes are already being offered.

Do yourself a favor and do not fall for unscrupulous and unethical instructors who are offering you an Illinois concealed carry class right now. Such a class does not exist yet.

Since we're speaking anecdotally, I do have friends who are extremely pro-gun here in Illinois. One is from Russia, lives in Chicago, wears a 2nd amendment belt buckle, and trades in antique weapons, mostly firearms. The other is a Marine, and lives in the suburbs. Both have been vocal advocates, but neither have been carrying this year. I know, because they haven't stopped complaining about it. According to you, they could've with an out-of-state permit (which I know at least the Russian has), so why didn't they?

All of that aside, even if what you said is true, that tens of thousands of people started carrying in the state of Illinois at the beginning of the year, how many of those were in Chicago (an extremely liberal city with few gun advocates)? Also, why would conceal carry deter gang violence, which fuels a huge chunk of our gun crimes? I think it's pretty safe to say that most gang members operate with the assumption that someone has a gun, but that hasn't seemed to stop them in the past, so why would it now?

Sorry, didn't see this until I'd already replied.

Possible, but unlikely. Gun owners are in the minority. Not saying that makes it right or wrong, just saying that "every non-resident license plate now represents another possible CC person" is a bit of an exaggerated implication, especially because the law says they'll have to have an Illinois permit.

Couldn't resist bringing up the trial again, huh ;)

Crime reduction is good news, no doubt. I can't stand Emmanuel, but I will admit that adding hundreds of cops to the streets did help. Of course, now that our unusually cool summer has ended, and we're back to the typical heat, we probably won't be enjoying it for long, but we'll see. Either way, I can't see it going back up to previous numbers. Now if only we could get the media to report on the drop in crime instead of making it look like it's gone way up, maybe we'll get somewhere.

Because Gary says so, that's why. He can't seem to comprehend that more guns in Chicago or any crime infested city won't help because the mentality of those men and women is they don't care if you have a gun or not, they will still come at you. But he doesn't have a problem with that, he has said more than once he would love to kill some thugs with his gun, he prefers them unarmed like trayvon martin, but all the same.
