Hi all - please could someone clear this up for me: the number on my white I-94 card which is stapled into my passport is different than the number I get if I look up my arrival record online.

Does anyone know why? Which number should I use? The one on the actual arrival card or the one on the online lookup?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

I would likely go with the online number. That seems like the number that CBP has in their SAVE database. It is the SAVE database that other government agencies access to verify your immigration arrival.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

If you received the actual paper copy I-94 card when you entered, then use the number on your physical I-94. You will include a front and back copy of your I-94 along with your form.

Thanks for the info guys...but both replies are contradictory! So I'm still unsure as to which to use....isn't it best to use the number that's in their system?

Maybe I'll use the one that's on the card but also put a print off of the electronic one in with the packet.

You should use the A number the one on your NOA2. It should be the same one that matches with i-94 that's hand written stapled to your passport.

This is not the same thing at all. The A number on your NOA2 has nothing to do with the question I'm asking.

The A number on our NOA2 is the same one with the one that was handwritten by CBP during POE.

One of your initial questions was which number to use for AOS.

With the paper copies, no one had the need to look up the number online. We just used the number from the I-94 cards in our passports. You would have never known you had a differing number if you had not looked it up through the online form available now and just sent it in as is. But you and A&B are correct in thinking that you want to have your info match the system database. Since you were given an actual paper copy though, that is why I said to use it and send in a copy of it.

You could make a note on the printout of the online I-94 info to let them know it conflicts with the number on your actual I-94 given to you upon entry and add that in along with the copy of your I-94..

The OP is not asking about the A#. They are asking about the I-94 number.

FYI: Not all CBP officials write the A# on the I-94 so I would never be able to find the A# based on your suggestion--it was ONLY on our NOA2 right above the beneficiary's name. Also if you re-read the OP's question it is about the fact that his I-94 number on the physical white paper form is different then when he goes on-line and enters his information and gets the electronic version of the I-94.

OP: Why do you have a paper copy of the I-94 as I thought they were going all electronic? If it was me, I would use the on-line electronic version, print it out and submit that copy with the number from that I-94 as it is what is already in the system under your information. I would not even use the paper version of the I-94 unless some nim-rod at the SSA gives you a hard time about the printed version of the I-94 and then I would show that to them with the stipuation that the number you are under is the one on the electronic form.

Good luck,

Dave

Thanks for that Dave - you got it!

I will go ahead and use the electronic record number as it will be the one they have in the system!

Thanks again
