K-1 Vaccination Requirements are they really required?

I was reading an arcticle that it is not "necessary" to have the Vaccinations done before being issued the visa. Only that it is reccomended because it will have to be done before AOS. I work for a Dr. and it would be free for him to get them once he is here as opposed to paying for them at or before his medical in Jamaica.

Does anyone know if this is indeed OK?

Immunization Requirements for Fiance Visa Applicants

Vaccination requirements do not apply to fiance visa applicants. However, it is suggested that they receive them during this examination. The reason being that following entry to the United States and after the marriage to their US Citizen fiance, fiance visa holders must file the adjustment of status application to receive their green card. It is at this time the US Government requires the applicants to receive the required vaccinations. This information is submitted as the Vaccination Supplement. If the applicant has already received their vaccinations during their Panel Physician medical exam, they do not have to receive these vaccinations again.

Therefore, it is advised that fiance visa applicants receive the required vaccinations during their Panel Physician medical exam and obtain a record of these vaccinations on a form DS-3025, Vaccination Documentation Worksheet.

You're correct.

The K1 does not have to have the vaccinations, because the K1 is a non-immigrant visa. When you do your AoS, you're becoming an immigrant so the vaccinations become a requirement. If it's cheaper and easier for you to have them done in advance, and get them signed off during your K1 medical, it'll save you having to do them for AoS.

K1 applicants in the UK are always being recommended on here to get them done for free on the NHS, for less bother and expense later. Same should go for you. Make sure the medical there gives you the right form to prove you've had all the vaccinations (I can't remember the form number - I'm sure someone will pipe up with it).

Depends on your husbands country. Some countries require the medical, some do not. Just like some require tax returns for the I-134 when it's not actually a requirement of the form.

That's fair! Good advice.

Sorry, I read it as the OP *wanted* to get the vaccinations anyway, rather than not wanting them regardless of what the country specifies is "required".

Free in Jamaica is certainly going to be cheaper than any Dr in the US is gonna charge for 'em. ;)

It's the opposite actually. We wouod have to pay for them in Jamaica (his country) as opposed to not having to pay for them once he get's to the US. So if he can get by with not getting them at his Medical and still be OK with getting the visa, that would be preferable.

Oh gosh. I'm such a dummy. I missed the vital words... once he is here... Gah. Idiot.

I thought you were IN Jamaica, working for a Doctor, so you'd have them done THERE for free. So... My response makes tons less sense now I understand. Sorry!

So yeah. You can wait. You'll still have to pay for the approved doctor/certified dude (I forget the proper name) to fill out the vaccine form for the AOS (see the guide on AoS), so not sure if that factors.

If you do not get them done before or at the K-1 medical, then you will not have a properly completed DS-3025 to use for AOS. If you get them done in the US, you will need to take the records of those vaccines to a civil surgeon and have them transcribed onto an I-693 to send in with your AOS paperwork. It can be quite difficult to find a civil surgeon that will do the vaccinations only and not insist on doing a whole new medical that is not actually required.

It's better to get them done before you leave because they can be very expensive in the US. I got mine this week because they were included in the cost of the medical.

Just remember, if Jamaica IS okay with him not having the shots to get the visa, then he will need to complete an I-693. This will probably end up being the entire medical but it should really only be the shots.

If he gets the shots at your place of employ, he will still need to take proof of those shots to a CS and have them transcribed... and some of those people are real criminals! So look around your area first to check out their prices, and then determine whether the saving on shot in the US is actually a saving when you consider needing the I-693 at the same time.

Is that doctor a civil surgeon? If not then trust me you want the vaccines done prior or during medical and your ds-3025 completed during the medical in jamaica. I rang about 25 civil surgeons in Orlando area and beyond and it was difficul to find one that didn't want to rip me off or was just ignorant to my explanation that I only need my vaccination record transribed on I-693 form which is required for AOS if your vacciness are not completed before or during medical in your home country. I succeeded at the end but still had to pay about $50.

It is not where I breathe but where I love that I live.

I'm pretty sure for Jamaica vaccines are required. Remember a visa does not gaurantee you admission into US its up to POE. So, to be safe I would pay for vaccines. Its about 8,000 JA for the vaccines and another 11,000-12,000JA for the medical. My fiance went to Mo'Bay Hope

Did he have his vaccinations done at the medical? I guees this is going to be the easiest way. You don't happen to have any info on getting the police report do you? The ony number I can find for the Summit station in Mobay never answers so I don't know what days they do the reports. Thanks!
