Hey everyone I have a question that i hope someone has an answer for! I just recently started to work on filing my taxes for this year and one of the questions (on turbotax) is did you get married. and I did so i selected yes then it asked for my husbands SSN...but he doesnt have one yet nor will he before april 1st (unless we get super lucky!)So my question is how do I navigate this issue. I know I cant select single and just do it like normal because that would be a lie, but he doesnt have any kind of number to put there. Any Ideas??? I would appreciate ANY help!

You can either get your husband a tax ID (ITIN) to do your return as Married Filing Jointly, or if you don't want to go through all that paperwork, you can file as Married Filing Separately. In that case you won't be able to file your return online -- you'll need to print it out when everything else is done, put "NRA" (non-resident alien) under the spouse's SSN field, and mail it.

I just got off the phone with a tier 2.

She was a bit rude, and she said:"sir, don't put in service requests, you are actually delaying your case!"

and when I asked her how am I delaying my case, she said:"they actually have to hold the case until they answer the SR"

and she added:" The actual processing time for the I-130 is ONE YEAR. So if it is not one year, don't call us asking about updates"

And then at the end, she said, please feel free to call USCIS if you have any questions about your case"

GO FIGURE!!!!!!

ONE YEAR! how does this figure, we see everything from 6 months (July) to 10 months (March/April).

It really makes me angry when they say this, my boil literally boils. EVEN THIER OWN WEBSITE SAYS LESS THAN YEAR (8.9 MONTHS) SO WHY EVEN SAY THIS...

The Bullshit "call us if you have any questions" also pisses me off

It's like McDonalds.

When you go in they say "Welcome to McDonalds" - but then there's always that implicit suspension of disbelief - like "really ? you want all that trans fat and horse meat ? Knock yourself out !! ".

Know what i mean ? :)

Oh for sure, however i am more angry at the "ONE YEAR" comment. It contradicts the USCIS letter and even their OWN website... its SUCH A BAD ORGANISATION.... however they don't care about us or our families, so what can we do!

If you have children you can file online though H&R block as head of household. You will not need a number for your husband. If you don't you will have to file married filing separate, then print your form and mail it.
