Hi all,

My fiance had his interview in Algiers today...It did not go so well. The CO was very rude to him accused him of being dishonest, basically said that he was just using me to come to the US and I am too stupid to realize that (I find this highly offensive on many levels). They put him on AP which I expected to happen, They told him it could be up to 1 year (is it really that long?) I didn't expect her to be so mean.

One thing I don't understand and hopefully someone here can explain it to me is they kept all of the cards I sent him and photos he brought (they didn't make copies they kept the originals). Why would they need the originals, and will he get them back?

Back to the waiting game I go :(

So sorry to hear that... It's unfortunate that stories like that aren't so uncommon in our region. I don't know why people have to be so rude. My fiancé had a similar experience in Cairo when he tried to get a tourist visa to visit me before we were engaged.

I can't say if you would get your original notes and pictures back, but I hope you do.

We met when Heather travelled to Egypt to be an au pair!

So sorry to hear...... My fiance, from Algeria as well, has been undergoing AP for almost 13 months. CO also kept all original letters and photos. We were wondering if we get them back at some point.....

We finally heard from the Consulate that they are getting ready to make a decision on our case. We are hoping and praying we will hear great news in the next few days.

It is a long, agonizing journey, just hang in there and keep the faith. I wish you both the best of luck!!!

Diana

Oh my goodness Diana, 13 months? That is horrible i am so sorry that you have had to wait for so long. Thank you for the kind words, I have no choice but to wait it out. I hope you hear GREAT news very soon. Maybe they have to clear you out of AP to make room for me ;) Ahh it is a frustrating journey but will be so worth it when he is here with me. I am puzzled by them keeping all the originals, please let me know if you get yours back when the decision is made. Good luck

I'm sorry to hear you didn't have the best outcome. I think it's actually a good thing that he got AP, considering what they said to him about using you. In not all, but most of the cases I have read on VJ, when the CO says something like that, they just refuse to issue the visa and the case gets sent back to the states. Did your fiance get a form at the end of the interview? If so, make sure he scans it and sends it to you. I'm sure the members with experience will be along soon to offer some advice and suggestions as to what you can do at this point.

For now, while it's fresh in his mind, go over the interview with him in as much detail as possible. Write it all down. See if you can figure out what might have gone wrong, or if there were any issues in particular the CO focused on. Hopefully AP will be quick, and they'll issue a visa. But, if for some reason they don't, you need to be prepared to address whatever caused the CO to doubt the relationship. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Good luck!

There are a couple of COs at the Algerian embassy. You will not know which one you get until you get there. And not to scare you but the "nice guy" was extremely nice to my husband but he was still initially denied.

All you can do is prepare the best you can and be confident going in.

Best of luck!
