I've considered the higher price that would come from it. Believe me, I know personally how much it costs to try to eat healthy. I'd actually be ok with increasing overall food stamp allowances if it would promote higher quality food. These people get #######, then get fat, then get sick and we're paying all the way. There has to be a better way.

I do not disagree. When I see all that garbage in the grocery stores I really wonder how people can actually consume that.

Personally, I'd be perfectly fine with a bakery, a butcher and a farmers market.

Well, that and a brewery.

Would anyone be opposed from removing "junk food" from being food stamp eligible?

I'd remove all junk food. Period.

I see people buying tons of garbage foods like soda, candy and chips with their stamp card.

I am sure the soda and junk food lobbyist would scream bloody murder over that suggestion.

Besides it having zero nutritional value, it's other negative biological effects only adds to the cost of healthcare; because if they are on stamps, chances are they don't have insurance.

Totally agree.

I eat about 65-75% raw food and it's double and sometimes triple what it cost to eat processed foods.

If more people ate fruits and vegetables I believe the price would go down, but not drastically at first.

The fact is that the food processing corporations in this country are almost practicing a state run eugenics program. Only those with money can eat nutritionally.

yes, but do you know what they consider fraud?

Honestly fraud is not the overriding concern to me.. I have not read the quotes from MR Big Dog yet (I saw them but hit reply here before taking them in) but I will assume he will tell me that fraud is a low percentage and he is probably right.

Still.. I can tell you I spent a good portion of today working on fixing a Wyoming WIC data transfer system we have set up on our POS machines.. We are one company and that is one state and we spend thousands servicing just this piece... And it is just to handle the cards..

A better system can be built that costs less and is better for people.

I would at least like the costs transparent.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

That's $16.00 worth of fraud per year per beneficiary. Or $1.33 per month per beneficiary. Or 32 cents a week or roughly 4 cents a day.

I. Am. Shocked.

How much waste do you figure does the farm bill have in it? How much money are corporations sucking off the taxpayer?

Splitting these items will allow Republicans to deliver corporate pork without having to swallow the nasty pill of letting veterans, the elderly, the working poor and their children eat.

I would cut the subsidies to farmers and corps before I would cut it for food stamps.. total waste of money in today's market.

I consider letting the poor eat an act in the best interest of the general electorate. One side stands for that. One stands against it.

Then legislate it as a stand-alone measure. Let the electorate see each side's stance on an issue, without the ever-present "gotcha" riding a headline measure's coat-tails.

This is a farm bill. Keep it to farming.

The food stamp issue needs to be a distinct and separate measure. The electorate deserve to see each party's position on each measure, free and clear of any quid pro quo that goes with a composite piece of legislation.

Sad but true. You should check out the staff and customers at Fairways on 82nd and 2 Av in NY! Very depressing.
