I got a letter in the mail today from the USCIS saying that they require additional information posted back as soon as possible.

I need to send an affidavit from myself explaining how we met and what led to our marriage, and 3 affidavits from other people explaining the same.

Would it be okay to use his mom,dad and sister for the three affidavits? Or do they want outside people?

I think it would be good to have a range. One from someone in his family (or, like, signed by both his parents jointly), one from a friend or colleague, one from a neighbour. etc.

Thank you! I'm a little worried because they never asked for affidavits on the checklist, so I'm afraid they are thinking we're dodgy or something.

It says on the form at the bottom that they do not need to be notarized... so I'm guessing I can just have them signed and... voila!

We're going to have his sister, his parents and his boss do one.

Yeah. I think the threads I linked to have suggestions for how to word the letters too. Shouldn't be too hard. It might even just be random (like, a spot check)!

Some of them look similar to the one the british expats guy did. So I downloaded his form and copied the basic wording, but left the filling in to the people.

We've decided to go with his parents as a joint letter, his boss, and a family friend. I'm REALLY hoping this is just a spot check like you said. Just randomized.

It says to provide a "sworn" affidavit, but then at the bottom in bold it says "Affidavits do not need to be notarized: the affidavit only requires the bold statement listed above "I declare"...

So I'm guessing we don't need them "sworn" and that they say that for the format aspect?

Yeah, sworn is just about the words to use. It's like a fancy way of saying YOU REALLY MEAN IT, RIGHT? Silly.

I was thinking... would it hurt to write a cover letter? Something like "To Whom It May Concern, Apologies for not sending affidavits in with the original I-130, I hope this helps to clear things up and provide you with the evidence you require" blah blah blah... or no?

Sure. But you don't need to apologise. They didn't ask for them up front.

Well, I've looked online and I see that RFE'S while not an immediate denial, means that they found whatever you submitted to be less than what they need.

They want more evidence of our relationship, hence the affidavits. Which I'm compiling now. However, I was thinking, it wouldn't hurt to add some wedding photos and random photos of us together with family in a small envelope along with it? My husband thinks it may be because of our age difference. He is almost 13 years older than me, and we married when I was 19. Although he doesn't look older than me at all.

What do you think? I'm going to attach a cover letter, explaining what I've submitted and that I hope the affidavits and extra photos I've submitted helps better explain our relationship. If they need any more information, that they call or email at any time.
