Wife returned to Colombia, medical emergency, need interview change?

Well the best laid plans of mice and men...................everything was moving along much too smoothly I suppose.

We were all set for the AOS interview next week and over the course of the 4th of July my wife became dizzy and numb on the left side of her body so I took her to our local doctor on Friday and was told that she needs her cardiologist who performed her open heart surgery 4 years ago to follow up so.........................I put her on a plane on Sunday night for Colombia. She is now undergoing treatment and observations by her doctor in Colombia. Looks like her medications is the issue, but she is in good hands and doing better.

I imagine that she will be under doctors observations for 2 to 3 months, then the plan is for her to return to USA and then continue with AOS.

Today I called to change the interview appointment HOWEVER they must talk to the immigrant and NOT me, problem is that the only way to contact USCIS/National Service Center is on the 800 number which does not work/is not available outside of the US territory. They do have a regular telephone number but it only provides automated information and live person answers.

Any suggestions please on how to properly notify that it is impossible to be at the interview? We don't want to risk the perception that we have abandoned the AOS.

BTW - Yes she took her EAD/AP with her.

set up a google voice account

then

use a pc with a headset

then

call the number, (your K-1 visa holder)

ya, don't forget to pay monies for skype account.

google voice is free, so that's a plus.

IMO, is best you set up google voice from a computer in the USA, using another USA telephone number,

then she uses the account where she is.

Thanks all - It WORKED! She used skype and called yesterday the 800 number from Colombia, went through the telephone listing automated system and got the right department/person that listened to the circumstances. Gave my wife a confirmation number and said that in about 30 days we will recieve another AOS interview appointment letter and it should be at or about/after October 1, 2013 that the interview will be schedule.
