I am filing a DCF in Honduras and I have recently filed the I-130 and all the other required documents and they have been accepted at the US Embassy in Honduras. However, I was told that I would not be receiving any type of notification other than the approval or denial of my petition and that this would take about 6 months. I assume this is because I personally handed the documents to a DHS Agent at the embassy and did not send it by mail? Can anyone help clear this up for me??

hola hrivera,

I haven't seen but a couple of DCF cases posted about Honduras so I don't know how true the 6 months is. It sounds very long though, and I suspect you will hear from them much sooner. Did they give you any contact information, and did they tell you anything about the visa application portion?

You can start collecting things like the police report if you know what the Embassy requires.

The method you've chosen is the fastest one available.

hribera,

Only the 4 Service Centers and the NVC use the I-797 Notice of Action forms. (Perhaps because the notices are printed, folded, and stuffed into envelopes by machine - a process that is not justified at locations that do not have the volume or work that the Service Centers have.)

Meauxana,

I was told that all my documents were in order; I-130, G-325a, and other supporting documents. That the process would be to wait 6 months and I would be informed whether or not my petition was approved. Once approved my wife would be given an interview date within 2 months ( 6 months + 2 months ) of the approval date. At the interview she would be asked for the second round of documents; police report, evidence of the relationship, medical clearance, etc. If all documents were presented correctly at the interview she would be given her immigrant visa at the interview. She would then have 6 months to leave for the US.

I believe as you do that they will contact me sooner. There aren't alot of these types of petitions filed directly here so I cannot understand why it would take so long, at the same time I won't get my hopes up.

I called the embassy and asked if they don't give any type of confirmation that my case is open, the attendant actually remembered me and my wife and told me that there was no written notification but that yes my file was open. I am not sure how much I should rely on spoken words and not get it in writing.

But anyway, thank you for your advice on getting started collecting the next round of documents and thanks to Yordak as well for the explanation of the written confirmation.

Kind regards
