I am so down and out right now because I just got a call from a potential employer that I had applied to a few weeks ago.

The telephone conversation was going so right, all the details of the job sounded perfect, the pay was good, the hours right up my alley, location was acceptable..... and then.... BANG...... she asked me why I had a ".ca" email address and when I told her it was because I'm Canadian, she told me that she could not proceed with the application because the first criteria for the job is that the application be a U.S. citizen. The job was scheduling medical appointments for active-duty and retired medical personnel, and that since 9-11, they were being very careful.

I was devestated as it's been almost 4 months since I've worked and I've been actively looking since I left my last job.

Oh well, just needed to vent.

Sept. 2/08... Oath Ceremony

Sept. 5/08... Sent in Voter Registration Card

Sept. 9/08... SSA office to change status to "U.S. citizen"

Oct. 8/08... Applied in person for U.S. Passport

Oct. 22/08... U.S. Passport received

DONE!!! DONE!!! DONE!!! DONE!!!

May 26/05... K-2 Interview - APPROVED!!!!

Sept. 5/05... Entered U.S.

Feb. 22/06... AOS Interview - APPROVED!!!!! (Passport NOT stamped)

Dec. 4/07... I-751 sent to NSC

May 23/08... 10-Yr. PR Card arrives in the mail

Mar. 22/11.... N-400 sent to AZ

June 27/11..... Interview - PASSED!!!

July 12/11..... Oath Ceremony

God forbid you mess up a scheduling - that would be an issue of national security!!! Meh... sorry to hear it... there'll be something better soon though, ther alwasy is :D

December 7, 2005 - Infopass appointment for interim EAD

December 12, 2005 - Received EAD card

December 13, 2005 - Received AP

June 14, 2005 - Case Status Inquiry/Tracer

June 19, 2005 - Letter sent to congressman

AOS INTERVIEW SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 8, 2006

AOS approved - August 8th, 2006 - hooray - done with USCIS for now!

GREENCARD RECEIVED - August 18, 2006

Aw that's a shame :( I know there's some jobs my HUSBAND can't apply for because of being married to a non-USC.

03.04.2009......Posted I-130 to U.S. Embassy

03.04.2009......Ordered Police Certificate for Visa Purposes from Local Garda Office (ordered over the phone)

03.05.2009......I-130 received at Embassy

03.06.2009......Received Police Cert

03.18.2009......I-130 Approved

09.10.2009......Medical Exam

09.23.2009......Embassy receives Notice of Readiness

10.13.2009......Received our interview date

10.29.2009......Successful interview!

11.5.2009........Visa received in post

11.7.2009........All the family flew to the US together :)

12.20.2009......Received Welcome to America letter

12.24.2009......10 year Greencard received in the mail

Ya that sucks. Me being Cdn and not a citizen even affects my wife. A lot of agencies in her field won't allow her to work there being married to a foreign national!! It's really weird which ones do and don't, some don't make any sense at all!! Start the citezenship thing Fall of 2007, more paperwork!! I'm sure it will work out, persistence pays off.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
