Can anyone let me know what exactly is needed in terms of Tax forms for the I-864 (just the first two pages needed or all say 20 pages from each year), also W-2, and 1099's??

Thanks

Most folks opt for sending in IRS tax transcripts, rather than sending in ALL pages of the tax return. Tax transcripts are free and readily available from the IRS.

I also included W-2s for the corresponding year's transcripts.

YMMV.

Good luck.

Take a look in the instruction PDF, too. It says IRS transcripts or a copy from own records is fine (and in that case, I assume it's the full 20-odd pages you have): http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

Edit: It mentions including the W2s and 1099s if you are using your own copies from your records.

A "complete tax return" is defined by USCIS as all the pages plus any W2s or 1099s.

Without looking at your 20 pages, it's hard to know if they are all part of your return. The pages to include will be called Form xxxx or Schedule xx. If it says at the top "Summary" or "Worksheet" or "thank you for choosing TurboTax" then it's extra rubbish not needed. My return has Form 1040, Schedule B, C, D, SE, and maybe others. A simple return might have only form 1040 or 1040A. The schedules come in if you earn interest or dividends, itemize deductions, are self-employed, farm, have rental property, sell things like stock, etc. Everybody's will be different.

The beauty of ordering a tax return transcript is that you don't have to send forms, schedules, W2 wage statements, etc. It's all summarized and verified by the IRS in a tidy few pages.

ok, thats great info, thanks guys. Another question concerning the I-864. My wife, US citizen and the petitioner has only been working for the past 2 years, she was a full time student 3 years back. So she only has 2 years of tax returns but the I-864 asks for 3 years of annual income. Also it has a box that says, 'I have filed a federal tax return for each of the three most recent tax years. I have attached the required photocopy or transcript of my federal tax return for only the most recent tax year'

Should she not check this box???
