That is what I think, if he would have made it home he would have been safe. I don't know how the two met if he was walking/running home. Either he turned back around to confront GZ or GZ caught up to him by shortcut or coincidence.

Why did TM assault GZ?

Who says that he did? Perhaps he was defending himself from an assault Zimmermann initiated on him. Would seem legitimate use of force if you think that Zimmermann's use of deadly force was legitimate. Can't have it both ways.

It will be in the jury's hands soon. If what Dan and Judy posted is true about the jury instructions, he should be acquitted. But then again OJ and Casey Anthony should have been convicted. One never knows. If you picked 6 people from P&R you'd have a hung jury. Perhaps reality is slightly similar?

Well, if it is already all that clear because the prosecution did not present a solid 2nd degree murder case and failed to even mount a manslaughter case and if Zimmermann has no burden of proof whatsoever regarding his legitimate use of deadly force against Martin, then why is the defense bothering putting on a case with any witness at all? Are they doing this just for shits and giggles?

I guess to be sure that all 6 jurors are convinced to vote for an acquittal vs. a hung jury. You never know, they may have found 1 or 2 people out of 6 that are as clueless as some of the people posting in this thread.

So it's not as clear cut as some would like to believe.

How is that speculation? Didn't witnesses see TM on top? DIdn't the ballistics guy testify that TM was on top when he was shot? I must be following a different trial.

There were reportedly conflicting witness accounts but certainly the physical injury evidence failed to satisfy claims of a savage attack. Nobody but GZ is going to be able to say who threw the first punch and his word is obviously suspect.

The trial wrapped up today and I understand that the pillar of the community didn't take the stand. His police interviews and demeanor certainly seems to indicate that GZ could care less about shooting TM, even moments after the killing.

TM being on top, my understanding was that the testimony only indicated TM was close when shot but I work so can't speak directly to what the ME said on that, when shot still fails to provide proof of who started the fight. Actually documented actions of GZ getting out of his vehicle means to me that GZ is at least somewhat at fault for enabling the alleged assault by TM.
