WOW! This site is amazing, I only wish I had found it sooner as we are nearing the end of the fiance visa process with our interview on Dec 4th. I just wanted to say that reading this forum has really helped ease my fiance's nerves a bit about the interview. I do have a question though...he isn't quite sure how to dress for his interview, can anyone make suggestions on what to wear? Thanks.

Just regular clothes should be fine. I rather felt comfortable in a pair of jeans than being stuffed into a pair of business pants but couldn't breath. as long as everything is clean and doesn't smell, he'll be fine. Good luck and for further advise...there is the AOS forum a little further down. You'll have plenty of questions coming up, believe me.

He should dress clean and appropriate for the settings. After all, he is going into an embassy.

Stay connected with VJ after your fiance arrives. You will find lots of helpful friends here to assist you with the next part of the process. It looks like you are going to have a very good Christmas this year. Don't forget about the 90 period and enjoy your new life together. Review the guides now for Adjustment of Status (AOS) so that you are familiar with the requirements.

Best of luck.

There's been a few threads on this in the UK section of the forum and the majority believe smart casual is the best way to go, but there are plenty of people who go in a full suit, and plenty who just go completely casual.

This is one of the ones I could find that asked the same question:

Thank you everyone so much for your suggestions on what to wear. Neil is looking through the wardrobe as I type for some of his dress pants. Hopefully they still fit him since he hasn't worn anything more than jeans for years. He's not nervous about the interview but now I keep having these thoughts that I'm going to lose a paper or something. I was scared to take all the papers to the post office at the same time to make copies because I thought they were going to blow away. I am such a freak! haha. Anyways, thanks again for all your help. Will let everyone know what happens at the Monday interview when we get back to Newcastle on Tuesday. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

My husband wore black trousers and a grey jumper. And his good black dress shoes.

Regarding your papers, just ask him to carry everything in a little case. He will have to wait outside in line for a bit, so if the papers are in something they shouldn't blow away! Security will run any bags he's carrying through a screener. And if he has a mobile phone or camera he'll have to check that at the desk before he goes up to the lobby.

Good luck!

We were part of the 'completely casual yet clean and presentable' brigade. Over 90% of the people interviewing when we did were in jeans. If he feels comfortable in jeans, let him wear them! It's not a job interview. He already got the job as your husband-to-be :) Teamed with a nice top (a polo shirt or something rather than a ten year old tour t-shirt) they look perfectly fine.

Good luck with his interview!
