Hi all,

well, maybe stupid question but anyway...

i just find out that i may be able to ask for a SSN just showing my K1 visa, it is correct??

and if i understand good, they will put on the SS card 'not valid for work', right??

and after i get my EAD, i can change this to 'valid for work' without any problems??

Yes, yes, and yes.

Just make sure it's been at least two weeks from your entry into the U.S. before going to the SSA office to apply for your SSN to make sure you are in the SAVE system.

Sept. 2/08... Oath Ceremony

Sept. 5/08... Sent in Voter Registration Card

Sept. 9/08... SSA office to change status to "U.S. citizen"

Oct. 8/08... Applied in person for U.S. Passport

Oct. 22/08... U.S. Passport received

Apr. 6/05... DS-230, Part I faxed to Vancouver Consulate

May 26/05... K-2 Interview - APPROVED!!!!

Sept. 5/05... Entered U.S.

Sept. 7/05... I-485 & I-131 sent to CLB

Feb. 22/06... AOS Interview - APPROVED!!!!! (Passport NOT stamped)

Dec. 4/07... I-751 sent to NSC

May 23/08... 10-Yr. PR Card arrives in the mail

Mar. 22/11.... N-400 sent to AZ

June 27/11..... Interview - PASSED!!!

July 12/11..... Oath Ceremony

Oh, i'm here since almost 2 months now, got married 2 weeks ago, and i'm just getting everything to send my AOS package (with EAD).

But SSN will help to open bank account and get a driving license, so if it's safe to apply for that, i'll go for it.

No, I don't think so. I think they will want to see your I-94 because that's what confirms you status in the USA.

No. After you become an LPR the notation can be removed. There is no notation to indicate that one has employment authorization from the USCIS.

You need to apply within 14 days of your I-94 expiring in order to get your SSN with your K1 visa. Since you have been here almost 2 months you are still in time but if for some reason you aren't in the SAVE system (like James wasn't after being here a good while) you might not be able to get that SSN in time. SS offices can be a pain in the butt when they don't know what they are doing, they were for us, so I wish you luck!
