And yet, Sweden does NOT pay a price in lower productivity as Sweden has higher GDP per hour worked than the USA. What does this tell you......?

Who cares about their productivity per hour when I want to go shopping

on a Sunday afternoon and all the stores are closed?

Who cares that you can't go shopping when you want when productivity is high and the economy is doing well?

I care. Which is why I say Europe sucks. My U.S. bank is open 7 days a week

(until 9pm on weekdays and 4pm on Sundays) and most holidays. Convenience.

You don't get that in Europe.

I will definitely agree with you on that. And it all depends on what is more important to you. Did it bother me a little bit that stores weren't open on Sundays? Sure. Did it bother me that when I called a repairman it took 5 times as long to get a job done that it would have here? Yes. But when it comes down to it, I can only expect as much out of others as I would want them to expect out of me. I'm willing to sacrifice going to the bank at a convenient hour for me if it means that my own job is more flexible.

There's more to life than being a consumer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What? :o

Do you remember the show, Fantasy Island? I can imagine you going there asking Mr. Rourke for the fantasy of turning everything you touch to gold. :P

I suspect that Mawilson is playing a game but to go along with it what is the point of shopping if you never get a chance to enjoy the things you shop for? Presumably the things you buy are not just 'badges' of your wealth; watches, jewelry, fine clothes, car etc etc, and some of the things you buy are items that enhance the persuit of your leisure interests?

Not to mention all the fun things you can do that don't require a purchase of any kind :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Very good question, and I don't have the answer yet. I'll let you know when I find the time to figure it out :D

convenience is very important for a lot of customers.. and at the end of the day, there's nothing more important if you're hungry for a burger or a gordita and ur wendys or taco bell closes at 11pm instead of 2am..

No you don't -- but you also get a generous 5-6 week holiday in Europe so you have more time to actually enjoy your money

What money?

I made really good money in Europe as do a lot of people - I got a promotion, moved over here and now make more money but I don't have a better quality of life

Try making your own

The thing I personally don't like about the idea of 'consumer' convenience is that people like the idea but don't want to pay any more for it, so the poor guys who work in the likes of Taco Hell and the local 7-11 aren't being paid for their inconvenience in having to work unsocial hours.

Hence our obesity epidemic. ;) We're paying a price for that convenience and the question is whether it's truly worth it?

Why are they poor? They have their job, I have my food, everyone's happy.

People are not going to say no to convenience, even if it means they have to work

a couple of hours more every day.

Why shouldn't people pay more to shop at inconvenient hours. I think double would be ok, and the workers should get paid double for working after hours too.

I am not sure why anyone would be 'happy' having purchased 'convenience' food, but that's just my opinion.

Anyone who works in retail will be labelled 'poor' to me because it's my idea of work hell. Each to their own though :)
