Best time to buy dollars

As you may know, the euro is very strong compared to us dollar.

Its very attractive to transfer my savings into dollar right now since i gain 30% (1.32 usd = 1 euro)

what are the trends u think? when would be the best time to get my money transfered to dollar?

After moving the US it would be better if 1 Euro was worth 1 Dollar, since our Europe trips will be quite expensive cause of the high exchange rate!!!

From an "ordinary person" point of view, currency exchange rates are simply a lottery. Probably the best we can do is to spread the risk by exchanging a fixed amount of euros every, say, month.

At the moment the dollar is so low against the pound, not been this good for 14 years. We have already transferred a good amount over and got a really good rate, as we thought at the time which was $1.87 but now it is going crazy so we are going to forward order our rate this week and we should get over $1.96 and that will hold for the next 3months, we should be in the states before then so before we go we just call on the money and they transfer at the rate we booked. The gamble is that it doesn't go much higher, which would be a bit of a bummer but if it falls we will be laughing

This is probably the worst way to do it, even if the service is advertised as "free". The exchange rate offered by a bank is likely to be not very attractive.

I've just (yesterday) placed a fairly large forward order for late April, I'm getting around $1.95 to the £. No idea if I'll be in the US by then, or even if I'll have my visa (I do hope so) but would rather know I'm going to get a good rate.

Having seen a couple of people recommend them on here, I spoke to Interchange - they're really, really helpful and are offering some very good rates. Their phone number is 0800 9127055 (+44 207 723 0007 from outside the UK) - if you book a forward rate you pay them a 10% deposit (by BACS transfer) upfront, then transfer the balance before the due date. Then they'll send you the agreed amount of dollars by bank transfer, to your US bank account (if you have one - they'll send it to any account you ask them to, though, so they can send it to your fiancee), or will hold the money until you request for it to be transferred over. If it's for an amount over £1000, they don't charge a transfer fee, for anything less they charge £10. I think I've got all that right!

Another way you could do it is to open a foreign currency account with a bank over here. I know Barclays do one (I looked into opening one but decided against it) - you have to have a current account with them, then you can open an account (in the UK) to hold a US$ balance, so you won't have to worry about exchange rates.

Hope that helps a bit... like I said, Interchange were very helpful but I've heard xe.com are good too!

If one could predict the trend, they could become very wealthy. It's been in the 1.20 - 1.30 range for some time now. Seems a good time to convert to dollars. But if you don't need all of your money in dollars right away, you could keep some portion of euro's hoping the weakness of the dollar continues.
