How long does it take to get used to humidity?

How long does it take to get used to humidity if you grew up in a dry climate? Summers in Kosovo are hot and dry but it gets chilly at night. I grew up out west. Hubby and I both hate this Midwest humidity. I was always told I would get used to it, but I think that's only partially true.

I don't know if you ever get used to it. You just tolerate it. The older I get, the more I don't like it.

Same here in New England. I love the 4 seasons, but I do dislike the cold and snow more than the heat. I just wish we could save some of this 90 degree weather for January and February.

but seriously - never, not really.

you can put in dehumidifiers in the house or even in one room, so at least you have a 'dry place' to go do when the air feels too heavy.

humid heat is about 18 times worse than dry heat... I note my 'training' in Houston helped me quite well when I lived in Singapura, most Singapura folk would melt during the mid-day heat, whilst I was just smiling and laughing.

but I digress...

You probably will never get used to it. I note if you can get to the mountains in the summertime, it's possible to get some relief...

We are "hiding" in the air conditioning! My first hubby grew up here. It never really bothered him. New hubby is affected worse than me. I hope he can find a job where he isn't stuck working in the heat.

I lived in eastern Kansas for 23 years and I NEVER got used to the humidity. I grew up in Colorado and I am glad I am living here again--I cannot stand the humidity especially at night. I felt like I was being basted while trying to sleep. I had to break down and use the AC all the time and given the cost of electricity in Kasnas that is hard to do.

Those that told you you would get used to it are lying .

I told my wife before she came to western Kentucky that the summers were worse than in the Philippines.

She didn't belive me until her first upper 90's 80%+ humdity late July day.

When I went to see her for the first time, she was worried about me being too hot, I told her it was cooler than the June/July heat in Kentucky I just came from!

I have lived in humid areas my entire life. You never get used to it. For me it has gotten worse, since developing asthma (I was unaware you could develop asthma later in life! So NOT fun in humid conditions!).

One adapts to humidity. I remember my first summer in the Southeast after moving here from Germany - I often felt that I could not breathe at certain times. It got easier over the years. After a decade in the Southeast, I moved to the Midwest and couldn't help but laugh when people there complained about the humidity. I was like, what humidity? Back in the Southeast now and I will say that I am not all that bothered by the humidity anymore. Of course, Tampa ain't as bad as Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville or Birmingham in the summer. Those places are just brutal.

I can relate. I've had asthma since childhood but thankfully have gotten better as long as I stay away from my triggers, mold and polluted air.

For some reason the 90 percent humidity of the Philippines bothers me less than the 75% we get in the summers here in Minnesota. Can't say you ever get used to it, you just learn to tolerate it. Maybe because there I expect it, and here I'm wondering if its going to turn to snow later in the week
