That would indeed be a stupid statement if made in the context you describe. Of course, it is not a statement anyone actually made in such context. To put it simply, it's not the fact that one may believe Zimmermann ought to walk based on his fantastic story as to why he had to kill the teenager that he decided to pursue that night that would suggest they like children to be killed. It's the comments about how Zimmermann saved the world from a thug that would suggest that people are indeed giddy about the teenager's untimely death. The below example illustrates what it is that I am talking about. This hateful nonsense void of any factual basis about a teenager that was killed for no good reason at all, a teenager with no criminal background whatsoever demonstrates a total lack of human traits by those posting and supporting it.

He was only 17. Pretty tough to rack up a criminal record at that age.

I think what some people here are "giddy" about is that the government was pushed into prosecuting GZ by a bunch of racists, and not the facts of the case. And now that the case is failing miserably it makes some "giddy" that outside influences are not perverting justice. The guy shouldn't have been prosecuted at all under Florida law. They have NO case.

You can't have it both ways. People want GZ sent to jail for a long time, and then pi$$ and moan when TM's character is called into question. It's the way the justice system works. Don't like it, do something to change it or move somewhere else.

Why would I put a murder trial analysis in the political and religion area? Not my fault everyone else did it wrong.

Because the heart of the case at hand isn't a child shooting by a wimpy, gun toting, vigilante, cop wannabe vs the competing theory of a worthless drug addled thug righteously shot by a mild mannered, man of the highest integrity acting in pure self defense when viciously attacked while steadfastly doing his job as friendly neighborhood watchman.

It is a debate about guns and the people who want to shoot others without consequences.

If the prosecution really had no case, why was the motion for acquittal denied?

I think it's pretty common for those motions to get brought to the judge after the prosecution rests and then be denied. With all the outside pressures in the case, the judge would've been insane to grant that motion.

I think its standard procedure to give the jury the impression that this defense thinks its so obvious that the trial shouldn't even continue.. I am basing that off my extensive knowledge garnered from Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

I flip-flop on this case. If either of these people had been reasonable in there reactions this could have been avoided - it's like the two idiots in a bar that finally find each other. They always count on the other person to diffuse the situation.
