i-212 waiver approved; waiting for interview!!

I am a US citizen and my husband got approved for his i-212 waiver on May 20, 2013! He had his first interview in September 2011 where the consular officer told him he needed the 212 waiver. We submitted the waiver and there was a huge delay in which the local office in the US had lost our case! We had to re-file the i212 waiver in the Nebraska Service Center in December 2012 and it was finally approved in May this year!! I have been here in ES with my husband and our son and we are so happy that we can finally go back to the US together as a family and not be separated!! We were told by our lawyer to go to the embassy here in ES with our approval notice and they would stamp my husband's passport and he could leave. Since I am here in ES with my husband we went to the embassy and they told us we need to call the number for the consulate. I called the number and they created a profile for us on UStraveldocs, and that we have to wait for 90 days to hear back! I scheduled an appointment anyways and the earliest they had was for August 16th! We then got an email stating that we need to have the required documents again and an interview! My husband had his first interview 2 years ago so they need to have another interview with him where he needs to bring in the docs and medical exam again. We were thinking that we could just mail in the passport with the documents but I guess it depends when the first interview was and everything. He did his medical exam already and we have all the required documents but on the list it doesn't say how recent the documents have to be except for the birth certificate which cannot be older than 3 months. This makes it hard because even when I called the people I spoke to were not able to tell me how current the documents have to be!And getting these documents from the US can take a while too. I was wondering if anyone knows how recent the documents have to be such as marriage certificate and US police report? I was told that the US police report can be any that we have since the consulate here in ES will have an updated police report during the interview. Since we have been here for two years and finally get to go I'm just hoping that nothing goes wrong at the interview in which they need to delay the visa issuance. I was wondering if anyone has been through anything similar or is familiar with the second interview procedure after a waiver has been approved? I appreciate all the help!!

The US does not issue police certificates (relevant Federal agencies can have the FBI do a background check and have the results sent directly to them). He will likely need a new police certificate from El Salvador, the marriage certificate you already have should be fine.

Yeah I wasn't sure if we needed to get the background check from the US or if the consulate will already have it. The list of required docs is the same list as the required docs as if it were the first interview. We have everything ready and we're hoping everything goes well at the interview and that they don't delay the process anymore.
