To become a citizen you will need a good grasp of English - be able to read and write in English and also to carry on a conversation in English.

Depending on her age that is not necessarily true.

My advice is to seek your citizenship if YOU want it. Actively opposing your citizenship if you desire it is grounds for an emotional abuse VAWA claim. You can even receive dual citizenship after you complete your naturalization by applying for it at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate.

Once you are naturalized you can petition for your children yourself. You will need a source of income though. Again, if your husband is holding you back financially by preventing you from working or not providing an adequate allowance it is considered a form of abuse (VAWA classifies this as Economic Abuse) and you can take measures to fix that situation.

I believe becoming a citizen is not my wife top priority ,being a citizen is will not change your life here in America getting a job or a better job is based on skills not citizenship I work with allot on engineers that are from Korea ,japan,India all are green card holders , so it would be best for you to attend a class to put you in a better place. also best thing for you to apply for a car license that will make things easy for you .

My wife came form Philippines 5 years ago her English is ok also with cute accent,

There is a huge difference though when it comes to naturalization for people from those countries you listed... none of them allow their citizens to hold dual citizenship. If you naturalize as an American citizen you lose your rights back home if you are from Korea, Japan, or India. If you have family back home or travel back and forth a lot or perhaps want to retire in more comfortable surroundings giving up your former citizenship is a lot to ask. That is not true of Filipinos though and is why it is not at all problematic to apply for US Citizenship as all it takes is a small bit of paperwork to gain dual citizenship for a Filipino-American.

The English language requirement for Naturalisation is minimal, most Americans could pass it.

note: my grammar is terrible.i barely talk with people.so my English skills level is low

i was qualified to file last oct 2012.so I ask husband today if he already file my documents.he told me that's its not necessary to be a citizen . .when I show him a link about citizen vs greencard holder he just told me its ridiculous..i don't know what to tell him, .some people told me that easier to apply a job when u are citizen. i cant even find a job, so difficult for me to go around.i don't have car to drive. He don't want me to drive too, i might get an accident. and my transportation is bus .and in my area only one bus goes here every hour and only for certain area..ilove him soo much,.im happy being married.it just feels odd that he don't really care my citizenship.other husband here in visa journey so excited for their wife to be a citizen..did i just over think these things? can i file it alone ? i don't have income..

i miss my 2 children too.im a 10 year greencard holder.is it possible to petition my own children without my husband ?

do i need my husbands permission or sort of paper works to petition my children ?what should i do?

It is not a necessity, but a want. You can file yourself.

Lol, Boiler is being sarcastic. I mention the English requirement because she said herself her skills are very low. She is not over 79 or whatever so it still applies to her.

The age requirement for waiver is 50 or 55 depending on length of stay. The actual ability required for the test is actually minimal in reality. I have never met anyone that couldn't pass the exam despite poor English skills.

That's nice. There was just someone on here the other week who failed the English part.

Look, it's just something for her to think about. I was not discouraging her, but it is a factor. She has got a lot of other issues to sort out first.

Has the OP even been back? In any case, it is not your husband's decision to make, it is yours, and yours only. As Harpa mentioned, you will need a good understanding of the English language, reading writing and speaking, as you will be tested on it.

And why exactly did you not bring your children with you to begin with, and how old are they? Before my husband and I decided on settling in the US, we discussed the possibility of my moving to his country, but if I had moved to Jordan I wouldn't have been able to bring my children, and there was no way in Hell I would have moved away from my children, EVER. I am not judging your decision, I do not know your circumstances, but I think you should have thought about bringing your children from the very start.

well I think you have to talk to your wife cause CLEARLY she stated her desire on becoming an US citizen and you're the one who's not supporting her with lame excuses. If it is a priority for her or no? I think it's her choice not yours.

I don't think tomcat is married to the OP...

From my understanding, he was just stating this: His wife doesn't feel urgency to file for citizenship, because she has other priorities. That's it. He didn't say he would prevent her for filing if she wanted to.

I have to say, I am not impatiently waiting to be able to file for citizenship, and I am note sure I'll want to do it as soon as the 3 years have passed. My husband wants to make me a citizen asap (because he want to be sure we have not to go through this ever again), I don't feel the same. This is a conversation we'll have when the time comes, and in fine, the decision will be mine.

To the OP, try to talk things through to your husband, you are a grown up and you should be able to make your own decisions! Try to find a way to make him understand that :)

Good luck in your visa journey!

From the day we sent I-129F to the day I recieved my K-1: Exactly 9 months
I am the benifeciary

fortunately im not married to my children's father and I use my last name to them(my son is 7 and my daughter is 5. is it easier if I don't have previous marriage ?

Only you can file for US citizenship and must fill out and sign that N-400 yourself, but can get help, even from this board. The major catch is that you will need $680.00 that must be included in your application. Bringing children here is a very expensive, especially if you need permission from your ex and is not willing to give it. Has to be settled in a court of law with attorneys and all that depending on your home country. USCIS fees are very high as well. Also doctors expenses for that I-969. And again dependent on your country, airline expenses, you may have to fly to your home country to escort them here.

Without having a lot of money, none if this is possible.
