note: my grammar is terrible.i barely talk with people.so my English skills level is low

i was qualified to file last oct 2012.so I ask husband today if he already file my documents.he told me that's its not necessary to be a citizen . .when I show him a link about citizen vs greencard holder he just told me its ridiculous..i don't know what to tell him, .some people told me that easier to apply a job when u are citizen. i cant even find a job, so difficult for me to go around.i don't have car to drive. He don't want me to drive too, i might get an accident. and my transportation is bus .and in my area only one bus goes here every hour and only for certain area..ilove him soo much,.im happy being married.it just feels odd that he don't really care my citizenship.other husband here in visa journey so excited for their wife to be a citizen..did i just over think these things? can i file it alone ? i don't have income..

i miss my 2 children too.im a 10 year greencard holder.is it possible to petition my own children without my husband ?

do i need my husbands permission or sort of paper works to petition my children ?what should i do?

Well, does husband know he will be off the hook with Affidavit of Support once you're a USC? That's one of the major reasons to naturalize as soon as possible.

uscis.gov under forms look up form I-130 - tells you who you can petition - only USCs can petition married children, siblings and parents. LPRs can petition minor children, son/daughter over 21 AND unmarried, spouse. You can file yourself but come immigrant visa processing time you will have to provide affidavit of support. How old are the children? If under 21 and you married your husband before they were 18, your husband could file for them - would bring them over faster.

I-130 is $420 - if you have money for that, save up couple more months and file for citizenship yourself?

Also, kind of sounds strange that your husband won't allow you to drive in California - it would definitely open up opportunities for you to get a job and contribute to the household.

I hate to be on this position, that is to give an advice that is contrary to your Husbands, but here we go.

Whether or not to become a citizen is your individual decision and you need to be with someone that understand and appreciates your individuality. Nothing is more sexier and attractive to me that a Woman that is self sufficient.

My advice to anyone is to always upgrade your status at each and every earliest opportunity. There is vast difference between an LPR and a citizen.

As far as the other stuff, I think you need to have a serious sit down with your Husband. A lot of those questions are things a family needs to decide together.

Good luck Madam.

Tell him it might not be "necessary" but you want to be one.

Tell him it will relieve him of the I-864 obligations.

It could be that he doesn't trust you. It could be that he doesn't want you petitioning your family. It could be he's simply obtuse.

Talk to him. he can't stop you from filing. He CAN stop you from filing at 3 years (if he files for divorce). He CAN'T stop you from filing at 5 years. So if it's something you really want, talk to him about it. If he's not going to be supportive, either try filing without him at 3 years (which is hard because how would you get to biometrics etc?) or wait until 5 where your marriage is irrelevant.

Obtaining her citizenship and driving would give her more independence...none of us have any way of knowing whether her husband wants this...all we can do is offer our thoughts.

Only you can file for US citizenship and must fill out and sign that N-400 yourself, but can get help, even from this board. The major catch is that you will need $680.00 that must be included in your application. Bringing children here is a very expensive, especially if you need permission from your ex and is not willing to give it. Has to be settled in a court of law with attorneys and all that depending on your home country. USCIS fees are very high as well. Also doctors expenses for that I-969. And again dependent on your country, airline expenses, you may have to fly to your home country to escort them here.

Without having a lot of money, none if this is possible.

To become a citizen you will need a good grasp of English - be able to read and write in English and also to carry on a conversation in English.

Seem she already got a good grasp we understood her...OP you can file for

citizenship on your own....your husband wants to be in control with you not

driving or obtaining citizenship....Take that one hour bus go to the local uscis

office get info how to apply, the process and then how to file for your kids.

Start looking or a job get on-line, take the bus, even at KFC save your money

and start driving lessons. set plans in motion to upgrade yourself, but continue

to be the good wife to him, don't stay home and twiddle your thumbs...bless up

Your husband not letting u learn how to drive and file for citizenship to me sounds like he is controlling you.

You can file your own coz u dont need him to sign the application. I understand him not letting u get citizneship for financial reasons probably?? but not letting you drive?

How u gonna get a job and survive when he's gone?? You have 2 kids to think about. You need to get a job so u can file for your kids. My USC husband petitioned my 2 kids when i was an LPR.

Yes u can file for ur kids but u have to have ur income if your husband won't support you with this.

But it would be easier if ur USC husband petition ur kids.

You need t o learn to drive, get a job, save for the worst..we never know? especially u have kids.

PS. Your english is better than anybody i know who's been here for years. Also u dont have to worry if your husband's Affidavit of Support will be ineffective the time u become a citizen. As long as u can stand on ur own and have a job.

I know for a fact that my husband will not be responsible for me for financial support when i was naturalized but i have a stable job and can support my 3 kids in case he's gone.

Thank God we are happilly married for over 6years and been together 10 yrs. Pray for ur husband too.

I believe becoming a citizen is not my wife top priority ,being a citizen is will not change your life here in America getting a job or a better job is based on skills not citizenship I work with allot on engineers that are from Korea ,japan,India all are green card holders , so it would be best for you to attend a class to put you in a better place. also best thing for you to apply for a car license that will make things easy for you .

My wife came form Philippines 5 years ago her English is ok also with cute accent,
