Name change without the original record in the UK

My fiance changed his name by deed poll about 30 years ago and only has a photo copy of the original deed poll. He rang the solicitor who said that they no longer have those original records. When he applied for his passport 5 years ago he got around it by just changing his name again (to the same name) It was done at a solicitors office with a change of name form the second time- does anyone have any ideas about what he should do for that portion of the I-129 application? Will they accept second name change or is the deed poll photo copy suffifient?
