Medical Exam

My fiancee and I are planning ahead and we're curious just where can you go to get a medical exam? She lives in Cranbrook, B.C., which is about 3 hours west of Calgary. Does she have to drive all the way to Vancouver for the exam or is there somewhere else closer?

Also when it comes to past drug use, how does the affect the K-1? She smoked marijuana when she was 15 but hasn't for 6 years. Does it matter now?

The Dr. in Surrey (Greater Vancouver) is the closest to your fiancée.

Canada only has Panel Physicians in Surrey, Toronto and Montréal.

If she’s asked she has to be honest. I wasn’t asked.

Since Vancouver is 8 hours away from her, do they generally let you schedule your medical and your interview at the same time, that way she only needs to take one trip? That's a long drive twice.

She will schedule her medical herself.

She’ll have to see how long it takes to get the results from Dr. Cheema (there’s a thread around here somewhere) and then book the appointment so she has the results for the interview.

Better than doing the drive twice though.

Dr Cheema normally gives results the next day so she can manage doing the medical and interview in the same week. Since she books her own interview she'll need the confirmation she's done (interview letter) to book her medical exam.

So just to confirm, she schedules the interview and medical herself, so she can schedule the medical first, and a few days later have the interview take place?

I was under the impression you couldn't schedule an interview until the medical was completed.

You must complete the medical and have the package with you (unopened of course) for the interview. That’s all they care about.

She’ll get some sort of letter from the Consulate to take to the medical along with her vaccination records, passport and 3 photos.

I’m not familiar with what is needed for K-1s at the interview.

Most people who are travelling do it liked we talked about above.
