I am in the IR1 Visa process and plan to move to Champaign once we get the visas. I have a BA in language arts from a Brazilian college. I'm wondering what the job market is like in Champaign especially for foreigners. I'm willing to start with jobs that aren't in my area, I just want to know if I will most likely be able to find some find of work. My English is good, but I'm not fluent.. What do you think? What kind of tips would you give for someone in my situation?

I am also moving to the Champaign area, hopefully in late Aug/Sept :). From job searching online I would say job prospects are good. Are language arts foreign languages? If you speak English pretty fluently and have other languages under your belt then I would say that makes you pretty employable. What type of things were you looking for? Have you considered getting your degree verified by an agency so employers will be able to see that your degree is equivalent to a U.S degree? Here's one I'm hoping to use once I'm over there: http://www.wes.org/

Hope this helps.

My wife and I are from there. Well, mostly me but she did a doctorate there. Its a great city to be in but I would be concerned about your lack of fluency in English. Better make that a priority. We are in Brazil now but working on her green card. WIll be back in the states soon but not Illinois. Its a ####### state (politically and financially) but a nice place to live if you make a good living. We have a farm there so Ag is big. Lots of opportunities in that field.

Hi, guys.

We are thinking in Athens, GA too. What do you think about this city? I have heard market job in Athens is so so and life is cheaper, and in Champaign it is good but the life is more expensive.

It has been a puzzle for us...

Champaign definitely has good opportunities for work. Have you had any luck with job hunting? Are you planning on moving to GA or stay in IL?
