Did your employer app[ly for the visa on your behalf? Maybe he would have a copy of the A # (if you have one).

Should they have? Is it bad if they did not? Do I need this?

At the very least you should get a copy of the I-797 Notice of Action that your employer has. If you don't have it, your employer will.

I still think you most likely don't have a A-number BTW. Are you sure you don't have a visa stamp in your passport? How did the Border Patrol Officer know that you had an L-1B for example, you must have given him more than just your passport and a filled out I-94.

I gave the officer two identical copy binders that were provided to me by my lawyer. He read over the paper work and then interviewed me. Had me pay the fees, provided the I-94 card and stamped a regular "Admitted For" stamp into my Visa.

Why do I need an I-797? What if I do not have one?

The folder you gave the immigration officer most likely contained a I-797. You should just ask your work for a photocopy of it and submit it with your AOS application as required as evidence for valid status. I guess you don't get a visa stamp, which I'm confused about, but whatever. You should probably include a photocopy of the page in your passport where the CBP stamped "admitted for".

I don't know (don't think it's bad). I was just thinking that your employer probably applied for your VISA (seeing as you didn't) and that he might have a document with the number on it. Although maybe you did apply for the visa, i wasn't sure.

L-1 is a foriegn employee transfer visa, so most likely the employer has all the paperwork.

I'm not sure, but I *think* Canadian citizens are not issued regular visas and visa numbers. Hopefully someone will be able to confirm it. If that is the case, I guess you would just put "N/A".

Just received my notice of action. There is no A# in it. Only a EAC receipt number, is this the same?
