_______________ .

The flight was on direct flight and was landing at around 11:30 a.m. According to a witness, the plane was just about to land -- its landing gear had come down -- when the tail of the plane came off.

After wobbling for a minute, the aircraft flipped upside down, coming to a stop on runway on it's back, according to witness Kathy Muhler.

When it came to a halt, smoke was pouring from the aircraft. Fire crews responded minutes later, Muhler said.

According to Redwood City Fire Department, three alarms have been called and responding crews are reporting passengers in need of burn treatment.

One of the passengers posted he is OK, plus this update.

Well of course its early, but if you look at the pictures of tge crash, the plane landed short and hit the embacnkment where the land meets the water, then the tail section broke off. The 777 is the safest plane in the world!!! Get the whole story before blaming the plane, just saying...

The witness must have been guessing or loaded. The plane is clearly not on it back. It is up right with the top section partially burned. One person is reported dead after being found in the water by the Coast Guard.

This doesn't mention any fatalities but it does look like a very bad crash

I doubt she was as she was flying directly into Detroit via Delta so that would have been a flight originating from Manila to Japan to Detroit.

From the looks of it, this flight originated from Shanghai then to Incheon then SFO. Based on the reports, no Filipinos are on the flight. What's encouragingnis that so far only 2 fatalities, 1 unaccounted for and the rest were sent to the hospital or in the terminal. Although these are the current numbers, it may change and I'm not sure how accurate they are. If this is the case, it's a miracle considering how the wreckage looks like....
