K-1 8 weeks to get case number?

I received my NOA2 hard copy in the mail yesterday, so I decided to call NVC just to check if they had received my case yet. Not surprisingly, the woman I spoke to said that it was not in their system yet and that they are currently asking 8 weeks to give a case number. Has anyone applying for a K-1 gone through the NVC recently and found this processing time to be accurate? I was under the impression that for K-1 applicants, they moved them through within a matter of days or at most just a few weeks. I hope they are just saying 8 weeks to discourage people from calling and asking. The wait is discouraging. :(

I have gotten my NOA2 alert June 24th and hard copy on the 28th June.... called July 2nd and had gotten my case number. The normal wait is one to two weeks, just keep calling back every other day after the first week no matter how much they discourage calls before 8 weeks. Call at different times of the day too, that helps.

You got your Noa2 pretty fast I saw and that alone should make you really happy!! :) (we had to wait 136 days more than you) and also were told UP to 8 weeks but that I don't think is true. NVC hopefully won't take that long anymore...

Thanks! That is wonderful news. smile.png Has yours been forwarded to your embassy yet? Do they send it on quickly once a case number is assigned? Good luck!

I have my case number and invoice number... and nothing is sent to Embassy yet, the online status still says at NVC so this is a wait and see phase. I was told to call back next week to make sure it was sent to the Embassy like it's suppose to ... from the first person I ever spoke to at NVC... so praying it gets shipped to Embassy next week!

Hallo KathaK :) Yes, we were very very blessed to receive our NOA2 so quickly! My fiancé is living under pretty extreme circumstances, and it has been a very hard year so far. I hope it doesn't sound like I am complaining or ungrateful or anything, because we were very lucky. Along with everyone else waiting, we just want to be together as soon as possible!

Yay! While waiting for NOA2 I always read posts about the NVC stage and it always seemed to go quickly, so I hope it is the same for us! The part that scares me is that sometimes they seem to randomly pick cases for administrative processing and don't give any timeline for how long that takes, so I am really praying that ours doesn't get stuck in AP! I hope yours gets to your embassy next week! That would be amazing!

The dreaded AP.... UGH! I pray we don't get it... sounds like a contagious disease.... lol. Anyways, yes it will be amazing if it goes to the Embassy next week.

We received our NOA2 on May 29th and still waiting for case number. I was also told eight weeks - it doesn't surprise me actually. Our I-130 was probably sent by NBC to the local office (in this case Santa Ana) so the file likely has to go from the local office to a central USCIS office, and from their to NVC (just guessing). I call every week JIC but I'm expecting it to take eight weeks if not longer.

I don't feel like calling every day (life must go on and why get worked up about something I cannot control).

Anyways, our situation is likely different than yours but that said do not expect anything to go quickly.

There is another thread on here somewhere which seems to say that cases transferred from Vermont to Texas (like mine) are very slow getting to NVC. Seems that Texas are not used to speeding K-1s along as they do not normally deal with them

I think the process at NVC is a little different for I-130 than it is for I-129F. Supposedly before the I-129F petitions were just there long enough to be assigned a case number (a few days to around a week or so) and then forwarded to the embassy. I haven't read much about I-130, but I think it is a little more involved at the NVC stage and typically takes a bit longer.

Okay...does anyone know if the USCIS can tell me if they sent out my approved petition? Would I have to talk to a tier 2 officer and could they tell me if my case has been mailed to NVC yet, or is that not information they give out?

Unless your case was transferred to TSC, you should have a case number at NVC in about 7-10 days or so.

TSC hasn't sent anything over to the NVC yet and there have been 0 case numbers assigned in the past 3 weeks of approvals from there.

Nobody knows what TSC is doing. USCIS doesn't say anything, and the new NVC line is wait 8 weeks.
