My fiancee is due any day now . She is 7 days late actually . I want her to have the baby at a hospital . She wants to have the baby at home with a midwife . She wants to save money . I want her to be in the hospital for obvious reasons . Is this quite common in the Philippines to deliver at home ? I am worried something will go wrong and not being in a hospital . She just had a doctor's visit and the baby has dropped . Actually a few weeks ago this happened . I read this happens normally a few weeks before delivery . She has had monthly doctor visits and on the vitamins needed . I read that 5% of babies are actually are delivered on the due dates . The 7 days late seems to be normal . The money is not an issue and it's nice to know she wants to save that money . However her health is more important then saving some money . This will be her first baby and she is scared about the birth . I try to tell her she will be OK and go to a hospital .

Just curious if anyone has had a home birth then can share that experience . How does the hospital bill work ? Can she deliver then pay at the end ? She has the Philippines Health card now . Not sure how that works . She told me they pay for a little bit of it . Anyway just a little worried now and thanks for any responses .

If everything is normal she can have a home birth no problem. I had three births, all in the hospital and the best one was with a midwife only. Things were calmer and less rushed. She was more understanding of what I was going through. This was in Germany, the other two births were in the US where I felt like I was ignored during the labor. Again if everything is normal she would probably be a lot more comfortable giving birth at home......this is just my opinion.

If i were her, i would opt for an hospital, to secure my health and the proper care. I remember my younger sister is also afraid of the hospital, she did insist to have it at home, and we ended up with a midwife too. She can inquire and ask the payment options in a nearest good hospital in her town, so you can have an idea and prepare for her needs in advance. Some hospitals lets you buy all the things that you need before delivering the baby(mostly gov't). If she has Phil health then lesser the payment. In my case i was fortunate since in laws were very supportive and they were with me the whole time, i didn't care the money thing, i was only minding the labor pain all through out . Congratulations! this is the beginning of a good life for you and your future wife.!

I want her to be in a hospital and I think she does too . I think she feels ashamed and a burden to me . I told her not to feel that way about it . I love her and want to be there for her the best I can be . I told her all this , but I think that is the reason for the home birth . I understand why she feels that way . She will go to the hospital when its time . Good to know there is a midwife there just in case . I have this picture in my mind of her on the bumpy ride on the trike to the hospital . I wish I could be there with her . She wanted me to wait since I can only afford the trip one last time . This way the 3 of us will travel home together . God willing I pray for that to happen for us . I am so happy about this and I already picked up dresses :) Going to get one of those baby carriers for the interview . I will hold the baby hand for the swearing in . Not needed but cute little thing to do . Anyway thanks for the responses everyone . Godbless

Congratulations! smile.png

Convince her to go to the hospital, home births are prone to many complications.

In a hospital birth, mechanical suction and ventilation are available. But your choice :)

My wife is in the US now and even here we've made arrangements for using a midwife over a doctor due to her preference. According to Michelle it is not at all uncommon, especially in the provinces, for women to prefer birth at home. For many people hospitals are places you only go to if you are dying or have had a terrible accident. Depending on the area the local hospital may not be seen as either safe or clean or could be a hotbed of corruption. Not that any of it is necessarily true, but perception can go a long way.

For your part you can insist, but don't be surprised if your fiance is stubborn and is tampo with you for trying to change her mind. Remember that women through the ages have given birth in far worse places than home for longer than they've ever had the luxury of a hospital suite.

She is scared to deliver all together . She is very tiny and nervous about that . I told her to go to the hospital if she wanted . Last doctor visit everything was good the baby was in the right position . I will let her make the choice of hospital or home birth . At home she will have the midwife and her family helping . I am trying my best to look at this in her eyes . She is very good and does not get angry with me about the hospital . She wants to come online tonight and I told her to stay home . She is stubborn about that though and gets upset when she has to stay home . Everything is happening at once here July looks to be the busy month :) Her birthday is July 10th and happens to be the day we met . We both think the baby will be born on that day . Would be awesome if it was :)

Aww, that would be very cute! heart.gif

As for going to the hospital, I would not wanna go either. Hospitals are the norm here but I would much rather have a midwife at my home as well. :D Whatever she decides to do, I hope everything goes well both for the mother and the baby and that you are united with you family soon. rose.gif

If she wants to have a home birth, and insist on having one have a transportation readily available if ever complications arises. In terms of payments with the hospital for giving birth usually you talk to your doctor if he/she has package of some sort and how much the "damage" would be. CS vs NSD.

I had a NSD at a government hospital (my then doctor was affiliated) and I spent about $30K-35K all in. I had to have my companion buy some medical stuff.

I am wanting to do a water birth for my next pregnancy! :)

Congrats with the baby.

Work on the requirements for CRBA as early as now. :)

I keep telling her to stay home , but wants to see me . Talking on Skype yesterday she had what I think was a contraction . Again she comes online tonight (very stubborn) and reports more feelings . She describes her belly gets tight then feels loose . They are very far a part maybe an hour or so . I did a Google search on contractions and may just be false labor . She does not know much about labor or contractions . So its tough to get an accurate idea on whats going on . However she has agreed to go to a hospital and has the midwife near by just in case . I told her tomorrow she is staying home !

Met on 07/10/2012 NA02 07/10/2013 ?? Baby 07/10/2013 ?? that would be a story huh !
